The main reason I chose using this instead of using an old desktop PC for NAS sharing was the PC consume at least 70W at any given time while this little thing uses no more than 10watt ( measured by kill-a-watt ) plus ~12W for the external hard drives (two 1TB).
NSLU2 is perfect for lightweight, non-cpu/memory intensive work and I am pretty happy with it due to its low power consumption.
Agree with that statement teetee1, low power unit to add to the network. Plus you have the option of adding/modding/hacking the device for your entertainment and pleasure
Most newer USB drives also spin down after some time of non-use so power savings is increased. I have heard most say the device is slow which compared to a full blown PC it is
but its like leaving you car idle all day and racing to/from work for 10min. Or you can ride the bus for 20-30mins, spends a little more time but saves a few $$ so I can buy more Flings
Curious what others are running (OS), mods on the device or plan on?
Here are a few links that others might find useful on this device.
