At least with your cassette adapter, it's a metal to metal connection rather than being transmitted via FM frequency.
All I know is that when there's not to many channels to fight it , stereo mode for this device sound like a cd (it says when it starts to drop you can put it in mono mode and increase reception).
I've seen amazon selling these things for 80 dollars at least for the zune one so buy it for 4 bucks with your code and know you'll enjoy, if not , its a good experiment.
