Got my card reader this afternoon while mowing the lawn. Initial reaction: It's ahight - my daughter could use a card reader since she got a camera for her birthday. Was a little bummed about not getting any misc. crap, but hey, that's just fun stuff, so no biggie. A card reader for $5 ain't a bad deal. Since I came in and looked into it a little more, I'm kinda bummed about the lack of sdhc, since the card she has is a 4gb, so if this won't read it, won't be much use to her. I do have another computer with no reader hooked up at the moment, so I can make some use of it. I put a CF card in a couple times and it didn't fall apart. I'm pretty sure it's glued in, but OTOH it's not the most sturdy piece of hardware, so I can see where you might want to handle it with a bit of care. Oh well, not an awful fling. Worth the $5 to play.

"The package is WORM???" I assume that's supposed to be worn? Seems like TF could use to hire a part-time proof reader. Kinda bummed on the shipping. Appears this sold previously for the same price, but I assume without shipping. Seems the price is now effectively more than doubled over previous appearances. Kind of riding the fence....

You would need SD debspurpledragon wrote:They would be great to send to relatives out of state with pics of the grandkids on them!!! ANYONE KNOW?? Yes! get a card reader installed on your PC and copy the picture files directly. This should hold maybe 15 photos But buy the 2 two-packs. Why in the world would you suggest that to anyone??? Buy.com has a 2GB SD card on sale for $12 with free shipping. That's 80x the storage for only twice the price and debspurpledragon can actually use it without having to buy a card reader. http://www.buy.com/prod/.../loc/101/202743332.html
As far as using these to share photos, there are more often than not thumb drives to be had in this price range with more storage, and they also don't require a card reader. Sorry fellow Flingers, but you're really stretching to try to justify this non-deal.

Well, not sure exactly what series of steps did it, but I got the firmware updated and my player's working now. Woohoo! I downloaded and installed the firmware (to my computer) from here (2nd link): http://www.themp3players...layer-qa/#comment-14856
Then I looked through some stuff at this site and did the steps described on this page to reset the player (the "hold the power button while plugging the usb cable in" thing): http://uiss.lan.io/rfirm.html
Then it got a little weird - the player seemed to get through the initial reload, but then kind of went a little dead. Then after a couple of plug/unplug/insert-the-battery/remove-the-battery cycles, I plugged it back in and ran the "Firmware Update" entry under the ilo menu that got added to my Start | All Programs menu in the initial install above, and viola! It was good as new. Well, except for all the crud that's still in the cracks.

TNT wrote:For those of you who have one that was DOA, try updating the firmware. I had one that wouldn't power on and updated the firmware and it now works like a charm. Where do you get a firmware update? I went to their web site and all it says under the Support/Downloads page is "Updates to your digital audio player will be made available here as they are released." As with apparently many others, my 3.77 unit was DOA-ish. It was very obviously very well worn - noticable crud in all the cracks, greasy smudges on the face - no way I'm ever putting those ear buds in my ears. It came with no battery, so I put in a brand new one. It powers up, but goes into an endless loop between the logo and a message saying "Searching song files....". It does connect to my computer, and I did discover 750MB of someone's country music collection - too bad I don't much care for country. For 3.77, with all the other junk that came in my box, I'm not heartbroken. But it would have been nice to get a working unit - or to get this unit working.

Hmmm, not sure I can get on board with used earbuds - no matter how well they've been cleaned.

Well, this was my first fling, and I was all anxious and ready to jump all over Melmo for pushing this thing at slick deals. But, while it's a box full of junk, its a box full of fairly cool junk. 3x - 2 pack of Keon key lights 1x - 1GB (as far as I can tell right now) Ilo MP3 player 1x - Laser pointer with 42 patterns 1x - 5 device remote (will come in handy in the travel trailer) 1x - GE Lamp & Appliance 24-hour timer (will come in handy this week when we take a trip in the travel trailer) 1x - Grill lighter (will come in handy lighting the pilot in the oven in the travel trailer when we take our trip this week) 2x - ThingFling hand-held LED fans Haven't tried any of it yet, but if half of it works I'd have to rule this a pretty decent $3.77 MB, and a successful first MB fling for me. Thanks Melmo!

I just discovered this site a week or so ago, and this is my first fling, so you better make it good. Make it a good one and I might be hooked. Make it crappy.... well, for $3.77 I won't be get too bent, but the zing might go out of my fling.
