2 Sets of Tag Alerts - Automatic Wireless Alarms
Alerts You When Items and/or LapTop Are Left Behind/Taken

If you have amnesia, these gadgets are for you.

If you tend to forget the place where you leave personal stuff (keys, cellphone, ipod, camera, bag, etc), these gadgets are for you.

If you have an elephant's memory and never forget anything, these gadgets aren't for you.

One, designed especially for your laptop, and the other designed for other "stuff" you have (and this one has 2 tags - you can use with 2 different items). These smart, compact tags are a bodyguard for your valuables. It is easy to work with, just tag the important stuff and carry the monitor with you. If you walk away more then 30 or 100 feet (you can pick this option), the monitor will sound an alarm and let you know where to find the lost "thing". TagAlert's patented technology alerts you when the tagged item moves beyond the comfort zone you set - effectively preventing loss and theft, or just forgetting an item.

TagAlert system includes a Monitor that can be clipped to a belt, put on a key chain or simply placed in a pocket, and a Tag that is clipped or adhered to the valued item. TagAlert is a perfect security solution for cell phones, Ipods, digital cameras, laptops, wallets, keys, remote controls, or any item of value. The retails are around $32.00 each piece. But here, you get 2 packages and a total of 3 tags for only $7.99. Never Forget or Lose Your Valuables Again!!

Features:
  • Is small enough to fit in your wallet or cell phone
  • Works for over 6 months 24/7! Non-stop monitoring the tagged item
  • Is designed to respond within a few seconds with a strong audio alarm
  • Has two-range settings to choose from - up to 100 feet!!
  • Is smart enough to discriminate between different tags
  • Will not interfere with wireless products
  • Loud audio alert when item is removed from range

Remember, at THING FLING it's not a deal ----- It's a STEAL!

I always thought there was a slight weak link in this sort of product.

You, the forgetful person, is counting on your ability to remember to carry the receiver..

Naw, just put it on your keychain... I am SOO Getting these! I am going to hook them to my remotes lol. then I will just put the receiver some where.. like up on my wall, file cabinet.. some where.. then next time we lose a remote I will just walk away & let it tell me where it is lol. Works for me lol.

I am Pray Thingfling feels the need to include more in the box lol. I am going to order 2 sets.. so that is what a total of 8 tags? the cable & tv remote are the most important.. 1 for each of the tv's in the other rooms.. so that is a total of 5.. I thought about putting one on my purse or camera... so that is what 6? I have 2 more... Both my kids will be getting cells soon (well 2/ 3 of my kids) So I can put one on each of their cells.. See I still need 2 more for mine & Hubbies cells..

Maybe I wont tag my purse/camera... and maybe I wont tag MY remote for my tv (in my room) So that would open up 2 more... haha I could use SO Many of these lol.

Sorry to um ramble LOL. the possiblities are endless though... Kids favorite toy (I would hide it in the battery section or make a little hole & insert it then resew..) mp3 players, keys, remotes, hair brush lol... what do YOU lose?

I like the "idea" of tagging my laptop -- seems like it would be helpful when I'm traveling -- but I don't always keep my laptop right with me. I leave it in the car when I go shopping or out to restaurants that don't offer Wi-Fi, and I leave it in my hotel room when I head to the hotel's gym, spa, or bar. Is there a way to temporarily turn off the monitor at those times so it wouldn't continuously go off? (Description says it runs 24/7, so I'm guessing there is not.) My fear is that in the end, it might drive me crazy having to remember to leave the monitor with the laptop at those times, but still remember to keep the monitor with me at other times. Would be awesome if the monitor had the equivalent of a 1-hour snooze option so that each hour it would alert me until I got back into range of the laptop again.

The cell phone one might not be a bad decision though -- I could safely keep that monitor in my purse, since I don't think I'd ever want to have my phone more than 100 feet from my purse.

Take a look at the product website

It seems that it is only the monitor that makes the noise - doesn't help you find misplaced things - just lets you know that they are misplaced.

Well shoot it wont work for my idea I guess lol.

It does have the snooze thing though!!

SNOOZE FEATURE

With the press of a button on the MONITOR, you can temporarily disable the alarm for 10 minutes, allowing you to intentionally walk away from your tagged item.

The units have a temporary snooze feature that turns off the beeping when out of range for 1 minute at a time. Simply hit the snooze button (like on your alarm clock) and the unit will silence for a while and then start locating again.

Naturally you can also shut off the the receiver piece at any time.

I was wondering if this device was one of those in the category of "doomed to fail if it ever gains popularity" by virtue of what would happen if you just happen to be around other folks with tags and monitors. But this statement from their website suggests they accounted for that:
Quote:
MANY TAGS WORK TOGETHER
TagAlertâ„¢ technology makes sure your MONITOR only tracks your TAG and does not accidentally track any other TAG. TagAlertâ„¢ will not interface with your cell or cordless phones.

But conversely, that seems to suggest that you can't just combine tags from other packages to just one monitor? Guess it depends on if the association is user programmable.

Definitely want one for the cell phone that is dropping out of my holster when I climb into the car. Laptop that I leave in the hotel would have to leave the receiver with it but when I am in an office area or at the library it would come in handy. I just hope the tag isn't obtrusive or easy to remove. Obtrusive would make it hard to find a place to stick it on the laptop. Easy to remove, a thief might recognize the tag and leave the tag on the table I am 20 feet away from. If it is 300 feet the thief could be half way to the door on a run to the car. Then again most thieves are kids with an opportunity and don't think to look for a tag or have a car waiting to run to.

Yeah, but kids can run pretty fast, and even faster on a bike. Pretty tough to follow in a car as well. The user's manual states (several times) that the adhesive is very strong, but considered the wording might be Chinese translated... Sometimes heat degrades their strong adhesives, starts off good, but softens at higher temperatures, or dries out over time, becomes brittle.

The tag system sounds like Bluetooth technology. Haven't messed with it a whole lot, just a photo printer at home, and third party dongles (which might have contributed to some of the problems I had, as much as not knowing what I was doing). But basically, they get paired, on power up, and should only work with each other, until you remove power from them. The receiver can handle two tags, but would be interesting if it could be paired to other Bluetooth devices as well. It's not a strong signal, and physical obstructions can block it. My photo printer had to be in the same room, which was kind of a bummer, no desk space left, pretty much out of puppy safe places. Fortunately, he's almost mature now, and hasn't been destructive in quite a while. Still has his curiosity though, but he seems to know the difference between his toys, and mine now.

I bought two sets the other day, should be plenty to play with, 6 tags, 4 receivers, so will be opening up one to see the magic inside. Got them for the dog anyway, he likes to run. Been lucky the few times he has taken off, but know I can't count on luck forever. He's nearly invisible at night, just a shadow. Still freaks me out, as to how silently he moves, should put a bell on his collar...

Seems like an interesting product, think two sets are good enough for now. Might go again, after I get to see what they'll do. Hope the batteries are all good, 10 of those coin cells will cost almost as much, which also kind of makes this an even better deal. If the tags don't work out, still set for batteries for quite some time.

These were sold in 2005 or 2006 by the Sharper Image, I received a set from a clueless relative as a holiday gift. I promptly returned them, they didn't work then, I doubt seriously they'll work now . . . when I took them back (about a month after they were purchased) I was told by the store personnel they were discontinuing the item based on returns and complaints.

Wow, 5 year old batteries. Was grocery shopping at Walmart, and the batteries are almost $5 for two. Just guess about the 2-packs, since both were out of stock, but most of the others were 2-packs. I've got a couple of remotes that use the 2032 batteries, and a keychain flashlight that eats 2016s. Wonder what kind of shelf life the get.

Hope they work least a little bit though, really wanted something like this for the dog. Maybe they just need to be adjusted a little...

Harvey, I buy my cr2032s nowadays (They're used often as MotherBoard CMOS batteries, as well a myriad of other hand-held gizmos) from dealextreme. If you don't mind waiting for shipments from Hong Kong, you can't go wrong for $3.66 shipped for 20 pieces bulk. I've yet to have any problems with the cells I have either.

As for the tags, well I actually got a pack of these from a prior mystery box a while back. The combination of wondering about the pairing process, whether to get more, and Devilish's negative comment inspired me to go find it, open it, and try it out. All I can say, is: mine works. Yes, it is similar to bluetooth in that the receiver and the tag pair together, but the similarity ends there. The pairing process all happens automatically, just pull the tab on the tag's battery compartment, then switch the receiver to short or long, and put them next to each other and they pair. I did tests, leaving the tag on my table, and walking around with the receiver--it definitely works, it's neat too, because it's like hitting an invisible wall, once you get the predetermined radius out, it begins beeping, and it definitely stays sharply confined to that radius, you can walk back and forth and it'll start sounding exactly where it started before. My only complaint would be that the beeping is relatively slow in its interval, it's not so much an alarming obnoxious alarm as you'd imagine, but more like a gentle alarm from an electronic wristwatch. I think it's more useful for reminding you you've forgotten to take your electronics, or dropped them, than it'd be for theft situations, but possibly it could, it's just not as useful since the tag doesn't make the noise, but the receiver.

Got mine today, only opened one to play with (spent all day playing truck mechanic). Seems to work, although the short seems like about 10 feet (not too useful), the long seems to be about 50 feet. Little short of what was claimed. The tag battery metered at 3.2 volts, so should be good, have to look at the instructions for opening the receiver. Will try the laptop tag later.

My dog wasn't cooperating too well, seems interested in the beeps. Soon as he gets out of range, and it beeps, he comes back to see what mad the noise. Was kind of hoping to see if I could use it to locate the dog, being that it would stop beeping when I got close. Kind of a long delay between beeps too, guess it saves battery power.

Should note, these are very small, which opens up some interesting ideas...

I have a wireless fence from PETSAFE for my dog. He learned the first day not to go past the beeping from his collar. I can let him out my back door and he stays around the house in the safety zone. It is an invaluable device that i highly recommend. No wires, just a transmitter that puts out a circular field that can be made smaller or larger as needed. I have it in the back closet of my house so I have about 40 ft in back, running along the side borders, and about 10 ft in the front of the house so he can run all around the house and watch people on the street but not run up to them.
it will keep your dog safe and not tragically run over one night, especially since he is hard to see.

Mine is still a puppy, kind of a large puppy... The yard is fenced, but he's escaped a few times to play with other dogs. Labs are a hunting breed, not sure if a beep or a shock would be a huge deterrent when he gets focused on something. He's getting much better, but he still has a lot of maturing to do. Besides, I take out at least twice a day for walks, would be kind of cruel to forget to turn it of sometimes before we leave. Just takes a lot of patience, but it usually works out pretty good. I don't use negative re-enforcement to train, don't want him to fear me, just respect me.
