For what its worth Shagbert, Onkyo can handle a 4 ohm load just fine. I have 8 ohm surrounds and 4 ohm unisound front L/R towers and have no problem at all with the reciever. I push it pretty hard to, reciever never heats up to unsfafe temps, no resistors needed. I have a 607 I have a (I think..) 506, and it's not as well vented as it could be, as well as sharing the same cavity in our entertainment centre with a very old big LCD TV that's not exactly energy efficient, and warms the room quite nicely, lol. So didn't want to risk it.. Thanks for the info, though, I'll bear it in my mind when I upgrade the surrounds!
