Wow, I haven't been on here in a while. It seems the Everything Else forum is being less visited then it used to be. None of the "old timers" chattering anymore?

Anyway....

Was wondering if anyone here is utilizing Google Wave? If so, for what and what is your opinion of it?

Hey Eagle-eye, yeah the everything-else bubble just kinda burst a year or so ago, I'm not really sure why. It was I think part everyone being worn out by the cellphone lights deluge of trolls, the kinda lull rut TF had with little new items(which I'm happy to say, I think is over by a few months now), and Deb's passing away, most probably...

Anyway, I am on Google Wave, have not done anything with it, I'm really actually unsure what it is exactly, which is likely because I really know noone who is yet using it.. On the other hand I also fall into that camp of people who still don't "get" Twitter, hah.

Hey Scared.

Could be too that TF took the everything else forum off the front page. Is TNT still hanging around do you know?

I have Wave too, but I also haven't really utilized it yet, for the same reason as you...lol. I have Twitter but too find it rather "useless". But I can see Wave being very useful once it gets going and more extensions are developed for it and integration between it and all the other Goog products (which I also have...Voice, Picasa, Gmail, Docs, Apps, Chrome....lol). I can almost see Wave taking the place of Gmail, like Voice did Grand Central.

Right, yeah everything else is a bit off the grid for that reason, which was actually the point originally, it was a way to satiate the "old" regulars and the "new" regulars, as some (I'm guilty) were getting annoyed that it was harder to follow product threads since the front page was being cluttered with all the new chatty topics over here. But those are now gone, so maybe it'd not be a terrible idea to undo that change.

I have seen TNT from time to time, but sparsely and rarely, I think he just pops in like many do.

Yeah, I'm a huge Google anything fan. First thing I install on any new PC is Google pack. I scoff at the recent upsurge of "Google is evil" haters. I just like most everything they do, and think a lot of the initiatives they take really is revolutionary, case in point their ambition to digitize all literature everywhere (and the people against that, I'm convinced really have no clue what it's actually all about. I am, myself, a writer, and think it's wonderful). I'm betting my next phone will be a Google phone. and if you want my random opinion on who is the true axis of evil, I'll give you a hint, first name starts with S, last name J, and he works at A. Anxious

The thing about Twitter.. I don't know actually, I just don't get it, I want to like it, I've tried, but I don't understand it really. I'm a huge texter (being deaf, it's actually a huge mode of communication for me), but by and large I just prefer and "get" say Facebook, and MySpace better. And it seems to me like with SMS alerts enabled on those it's really about the same thing.. but better. But, as it goes, sometimes it just makes no sense, things are popular because they are, and then they shine because that's where all the people are. Take Myspace, it was the first social network I really "got into". I had a Facebook account for quite some time but never used it till about a year ago when everyone (and my mother) suddenly had facebook accounts.. I still update my MS profile, but I rarely check there anymore because the people are gone. They made the mistake that they sat on their laurels for so long, FB had the innovation, drew the crowd. Now MS has been playing catchup, and honestly looking at it now I think it has and is much better than FBs implementation, but it really doesn't matter, because... no one is there anymore.

It's the same thing with everything, even DoTD, I shop from Woot like I do all the sites, but I'm still beyond befuddled why they are still relegated as top dog. TF for example outshines them on customer service in every way. I consider buying from any DoTD site a gamble, because you take the chance of getting old broken defective open boxed "refurbs" at horse-drawn-buggy shipping speeds with sparse customer service for the opportunity of scoring something at a steal of a price. But it's a different feeling when I buy from TF, compared to Woot. With TF I have a sense of security that "in the end" I'll come out on top if I buy wisely, they've time after time made problems right for me. With Woot, it's a groan if I receive something non functional, I know already that they're gonna do nothing but direct me to the manufacturer and say, work it out with them.

So.. end random long rant. Smile
