Well, it wasn't a Hawaiian Punch box, but boy howdy, what a mystery box!

As soon as I opened it, the youngest cat had to hop in and see if anything was comfy to sit on... and when I finally got him out of there, it was an interesting sight - a covering of styrofoam peanuts, with tantalizing corners sticking out. I loved this, because every item was still a mystery until I plucked it out of the box! As several others have posted, I kept looking for my 'shagged' note, because what a haul!

Stuff seemed to fall into a couple of categories:

Category: Travel
(side note: how awesome to get so many tiny useful things to stick in my travel bag!)
GE Personal security alarm - very handy for a lone female traveling Smile
2x 3 outlet swivel adapter - I am always whining about how hotel rooms never have enough outlets, so hooray for this, too! And a spare for my other traveling buddies Smile
Sunbeam travel ionizer - with as much as I love my closet ionizers, I am pleased to get this! Good for non-smoking hotel rooms that have been smoked in?
Small blue Ambico camera bag, that might work well as a travel purse...
Blue Samsonite travel toiletry bag - came pre-wrapped, but if I could resist unwrapping packages, I wouldn't be so into mystery boxes ;p
Tiny Vivitar 3x18 binoculars - also pre-wrapped, see above ;p These are way too cool Smile

Category: Electronic
Southwestern Bell earclip style headset *with a boom mike!!*for cell or cordless phones - I was just looking for my cell headset yesterday, so perfect timing! Comes with a plethora of adapters, too
usb 2.0 4 port sharing switch - very cool! It's unusual because the 4 ports are the shape of the end that usually plugs into a printer, so I'm not sure if it's to share 4 items on one computer or 1 item on 4 computers. A research project, I love a research project!
A loose usb cable, 6' - with the funky end and...
Newpoint 6' usb cable, also compatible with the hub
Power Sentry 6 outlet power strip - almost went and bought a power strip earlier this week, so Hooray for the prescient TF folks!
*The inevitable headphones x2, over ear clip type, blue and silver
*Monster ConnectAll200 - connects dvd players/gaming consoles to older tvs

Category: Cards
2 musical birthday cards that play BOC's Burning for You!
2 musical 'romantic' cards that play Brand New Key (haven't heard that in years!)
2 different format 'romantic' cards that play Brand New Key (my bf is going to be inundated with musical cards ;p)
2 yet another format 'romantic' cards that play Unchained Melody (one of the best love songs ever! (this coming from an old-school metalhead)

Category: Misc
*Speedo nautical backpack, light blue
*9x tubes of super glue - I am very talented at getting this stuff all over me and not where it needs to go, so I usually get the gel - but everybody uses superglue, so it won't go unused
*GE nightlight, with a pretty dragonfly patterned cover
*Emerson flashlight
*The most random item I've ever gotten in a mystery box prize goes to - Green Rawlings batting helmet, right handed. Kinda small on me, so probably kid sized. Wonder if anyone's kid is doing baseball or softball...
Curiosity killed the cat....
Satisfaction brought it back!

Holy CRAP! No wonder you didn't get a Hawaiian Punch box! All that won't fit! Sounds more like a job for a KOOL-AID box! NICE HAUL!!! Applause

Hmmmmm. I must have pissed off the ThingFling gods. I look at the hauls that other people are reporting and then peer in at the not even full MB that I got and, well I feel let down. The biggest items I got were the Thera shower and a thermometer/baromoeter combo in a wooden case. There were a small bunch of other things - like the magnetic window alarm with an "$11.99" Rite Aid price tag, but nothing really from the known universe of TF stuff that is actually useful of interesting. Sure the Thera shower might be nice, but I hardly think it's a ready replacement for an $800 Water Works installation. As for the thermometer thingy - let's just say it doesn't "fit" with the decor of the house...: d'oh! I know the routine - give away what you don't need or want. But I was really hoping for a "fun" box...Crying or Very sad

no..the Thera Shower won't be a good replacement for your killer shower set up there! But..do you have a pool shower or out door spigot you can hook it up to for out door rinsing? Maybe it would work for you outside? The shower head has great pressure even with the capsules in it..and they smell nice too! Same with the thermometer thing..on your covered porch??? I was thinking of hanging mine outside also..got one in another MB and it doesn't work with my decor either..but outside it could be nice.

Maybe if you can do that..could it make you feel better?

It's kind of odd - most of the bathrooms in the house are virtually identical in style. I absolutely fell in love with the bathrooms at the Fairmont Orchid in Hawaii and we pretty much copied them. A lot of the bedrooms are done in a "British Colonial" style with LOTS of mahogany pieces and Waverly's Wailea Coast bedding and drapes - it all ties together nicely. As for the pool idea - well... there actually is a full bath already off it. I might just hook it up just to try out the capsules - they DO smell really nice...

I like the kitten - It reminds me of our cats when they were young!

oh..I just google imaged the bathrooms from that hotel..very nice...especially for a hotel! They look very sanitized for my protection too! Very Happy

I was thinking maybe the shower head could fit on to one of the outside spigots you have a hose hooked up to for rinsing off after gardening...don't know if the fitting is the same as a hose...but if it is..you could hook it up outside by the garden hose and mount it on the wall...fancy rinse off gadget..you'll be the envy of all your neighbors! Laughing

you have orange kitties?? Would love to see them! Post some pics! We have a pet thread in here! Deb's started it! I love posting pics of my girls...they ARE my pride and joy..also...they're grandchildren replacements as everyone tells me since I'm the only one that doesn't have grandchildren yet! Oh well...as I always say back...MY girls will never say NO to me! HA!

It's one of my favorite hotels. They have hundreds of huge koi in ponds all over the place. They are so tame you can actually stick your finger in the water and they all fight to nibble on it. It's really freaky.

Nicest hotel room/experience I ever had was at the Disneyland Hotel in Disneyland Paris. (I'm a major Disney park fan) We stayed in room 2406 in the Castle Club. What a gorgeous room! There was champagne, roses and chocolates when we arrived. The room overlooked the castle and at night there was the most incredible view of the castle twinkling with thousands of tiny white lights through an oval window. Didn't copy any of the decor from there though - too Victorian for my tastes. I did have a big battle over having a chandelier made that was a replica of the one in the Disney MiraCosta in Tokyo DisneySea (THE most amazing theme park in the world - par none)

I'm not too extreme though. I actually have been in a house where the master bedroom was wallpapered with the same stuff as in the Haunted Mansion!

Scary thing is - I'm getting the urge to go crazy again. My latest idea is to put a balcony/box in our theater room that is an exact replica of the one from the Muppet Show (with Statler and Waldorf). The room *needs* to be redone desperately. It's been pulled apart since this picture:

...but the screen remains the same size. (We actually have 2 complete setups!)

Yep - that's a 14' (foot) Dalite Cosmopolitian electric screen. The movie playing is 'The Fifth Element" and my son is 5'9"

It's definitely a big picture - and has a sound system to match!

The room is being renovated and redecorated to make it a little more intimate. (It's hard with 24' cielings)

Ahhh - the green eyed monster. But, remember a big house also has other "big" things - like $23K a year in property taxes or $700 electric bills... The only thing I get away with cheaply is car insurance (of all things!) I suppose everything is relative though. We do a ton of entertaining so the space is a blessing. The house can get a little psycho at times - it has a computer system and sensors to control lighting, ac, etc. Sometimes it goes a little wonky and you would think we had ghosts! We also have a veritable zoo in the area - everything from a family of 3 foxes to deer and wild turkeys. And all within a 20 minute drive (off peak) to Manhattan...

Because I LIKE it...

Heck my favorite store used to be Odd Job (here in the Tri-State area we remember them well). I'm not some snob that thinks they are too good to shop in Big Lots either. Let's put it this way - my Great Great Grandparents considered the Rockefellers nouveau-riche (but John D gave them a tasteful wedding present)Angel

Ya know what's funny..at a glance I thought he was standing in front of a storefront and that was a manniquin..but then I noticed the indoor furnishings and thought..no..can't be in front of a storefront...so..then I thought..you have a huge picture window and then thought...nooooo....who ever that is standing outside your window not only looks quite familiar, she's way too big and a tad underdressed for being outside...then it hit me..that's the 5th Element and that HAS to be a TV! Laughing

Is that a Flokati rug on the floor??? I want to find one of those for my cats..they would absolutely love one of those..but I want to find one cheap...damn near impossible to find one on sale...and in the right color...I want a dark one so the cat hair doesn't stand out!

So now..what type of decor besides "intimate" are you going for? You can still do intimate with those high ceilings...crystal chandeliers on dimmers if going elegant...if modern...go recessed lighting on dimmers. Deep Reds and Golds are good colors for intimate settings and of course perfect for that home theater! Have you thought of going maybe Art Deco?? You can find the most awesome lighting in the art deco style..especially for walls..then you don't have to worry about the high ceilings..paint it black with maybe some of those tiny LED lights thruout! Actually a black embossed tin ceiling would be hot! OYE! STOP ME! I can go on forever about redecorating your theater! I absolutely LOVE decorating....I'd be in my glory if I was set loose in your theater....with YOUR money of course!!!! Bad Grin

You HAVE to show us pictures when you're done! I MUST SEE!!!

Heh..and here I am bitching about my $300 electric bills every month...I think I'll shut up about that now! It's been quite hot so the air conditioning is running on over time I guess. It's a good thing I had a new system installed inside and out a couple years ago..it's more energy efficient than the older one that was installed when the house was built..imagine the bills if I didn't replace all that! YIKES!

Where in NY are you? Or are you in Jersey? I'm originally from Long Island (Suffolk County)....now living in Hell (florida) Yeah..property taxes are quite high up there and you don't have the luxury of Homestead exemptions like we do down here.

The rug on the floor was for the cats - it's actually a sheepskin. They love it!
As for the style of the room - I'm thinking a 1890's London Gentleman's Club gone high tech. Of course the fabrics and finishes need to be bulletproof. I want to be able to spread out and have a bucket of KFC and not worry. But at the same time I want timeless elegance. In some ways it's easy - substitute microfiber suede for natural, use glass table toppers, etc. I'm thinking of having the room paneled in a medium toned wood and coffered cielings in white. ALL of the window have to be replaced - they are total crap. Each and every one of them has had the seals fail between the glass panels and there is condensation on the interior. So much for the builder's claim of "high quality" materials. They are out of warranty so... But it would probably help lower the bills. However - there are two other houses that I've had my eye on. One was literally the bargain of the century, but I dragged my feet - a gorgeous "manor" house from 1902 designed by McKim, Mead and White. The other is still available. I'm torn - doing the renovations on the scale I want would be a nightmare. The other house isn't perfect, but... Arggg...

We're in Northern NJ. We actually have a couple of houses - though it's not as bad as it sounds. My family has been in NY and north Jersey for a couple hundred years and we're ended up with a few properties that there is just too much emotional attachment to. We have property tax rebates available, but they are reduced as income increases. Best you can get is $2000 back - which helps, but they really need to re-think how the schools are funded. If a house pays $25,000 in property taxes - over $20K of that is just for the schools. Ironically - we don't have kids...

Ironically, it seems strange that your 5'9" SON was standing in front of the TV if you don't have kids. I have NEVER seen someone confused over whether they had children or not.
