The packing on my 2 sets was alright... stapled & taped in places. But hey, so far so good.

In my case, the packaging was damaged on corners. That's probably why TF got them so cheap. Doesn't bother me since packaging is already in the trash.
For the phones though, they work well inside the house at least. No problem with distance or going through walls. Haven't tried them outside yet though. Still, a decent fling.

For those who ordered this, what was the shipping weight if you can remember? I ordered the MB and am trying to see what the MB itself weighs. Thanks! ___________________________________________________________________________ 17 Things Flung So Far!

Once they shipped, they got here fast. I received notification that they shipped on the 28th and they got here on the 30th. Not bad. The phones look great, although the shipping packaging was strange (probably because of the shape and size of the phones' packaging). Here's a question, though. They've been charging for about 26 hours already, and I'm probably not going to get to set them up until tomorrow morning sometime. Any harm in leaving them in their cradles, plugged in? Or do you think I should unplug them all from the power strip? I'm just about to read the manual, but figured I'd get some other opinions, too.

Nice fast shipping TF! Got mine yesterday. Currently charging. Package was brand new, not a scratch. Hint for those that didn't get theirs yet: the batteries are in there. Look harder. They are with the charging cords. Gotta go, I have to find some stuff to glue. Type your signature here.

None of my phones stay charged. Anyone else having this problem? I haven't been able to use them. I charge them fully and take them off the charger when the battery says they are full, but the second I press talk to try to make a call, the phone turns off. Anyone else with this problem? Royal Court, can you do anything about this or do you know anything about this problem? Thanks. ___________________________________________________________________________ 17 Things Flung So Far!

Thanks. Swap the batterys out. Sometimes batterys that have sat around too long dishcharged will form an internal short. You have other aaa nimh? Use a voltmeter to find the dead cells. They can be saved by flash burning the internal short. Take a 9 volt battery, and a jumper wire. hook the jumper to the positive of the 9 volt. Hold the negative of the 9 volt against the negative of the aaa. Now strike the + alligator clip of the jumper against the + of the aaa, like striking a match. The short will be vaporized. Now test the voltage, should be about 1-1.2. Now the short has been cleared, it needs a full charge. I had 3 cordless phones, bought refurbed, hat had non function batterys just like yours. Each battery pack was 3 cells, connected by welded tabs. I found the one dead cell in each pack, flashed them as described, and charged those up. Saved at least $45 dollars for new battery packs.

Thanks. Take all the batterys out and test them with a voltmeter or if you have a mini-mag light that uses aaa. You will find that at least one of each set is dead. Put the good ones back into two of the phones, and go buy 4 new nimh aaa.

Thanks. according to the description, these are NEW and carry a manufacturers warranty. i would suggest you make the call to the manufacturer and get them to fix or replace them. i am going out on a limb here, but if all four are doing this, it's probably an operator error. did you install the batteries? in another post, it was stated that the batteries were not intuitivly placed in the packing. is there a chance that you just put them on the cradle and assumed the batteries were already in place? i don't want to offend with that question, but i was in the computer business for many years and found problems like that happen to almost anyone at one time or another. if you plugged in the batteries, try unplugging them and plugging them back in again. most of these connectors make an audioble and tactile 'click' when they are fully plugged in. look and feel for these clues. if they are still broken, call the manufacturer and have THEM fix it. bill

" bill (a very happy customer)

Quote:if they are still broken, call the manufacturer and have THEM fix it I passed on this the first time because it said batteries were not included. The second time it listed the batteries where included so I figured the first time was a typo and ordered it. I had the exact same problem; my phones wouldn't fully charge and when I tried to use them the handset would die in seconds. I contacted philips because they were under warranty. They told me that this is a huge problem with this phone and I would have to send everything back because allot of times it is the charging base not the batteries. I would have had to pay shipping to them and BACK. I chose to send it back to thingfling for an exchange and it cost over $10 to do it. I received my replacement last week and I still have the SAME problem. They sent me replacement batteries that arrived yesterday and I am waiting to see how that goes. My husband has been in computers for years also so I know all about simple user errors. I think the batteries are just old and to buy new ones it will cost me $40! I could have just paid the $100 for the newer version of this phone. This was my first fling and so far I have not been impressed. My advice to anyone considering buying it is to just pass and save yourself the hassle.

Thanks to krhamit, tennesseebill, and sheepherder04 for the response. To krhamit: I think I will try to "jump" the battery with a 9v just because I've never heard of that before and I want to see what happens/if that'll work. To tennesseebill: I see how many people would make those little mistake as I have too, but this time, the batteries are just no good IMO. If "jumping" the battery doesn't work, I'll ask the manufacturer to replace. To sheepherder04: Let me know how that goes. P.s. I'm sure this answer would be a yes, but would any AAA NiMH work? I want Philips to send me new ones, but I might just buy an 8 pack of they give me the run-around. ___________________________________________________________________________ 17 Things Flung So Far!

Hi guys, thanks for the reply. I've had lunch and can write a little more about my battery experience. First off, we are very lucky that these phones use common aaa nimh batterys. The replacement cost is $1 each, when bought in bulk. Or $2.50 when bought at a store. The usual 3 cell cordless phone battery pack is $16 at radio shack, and they have been sitting on a shelf for 2 years, and may be bad when you get them. I went through 2 packs in my previous phone, and the one I bought at R.S. was no good too.
So I got a set of three phones, Uniden nice they have intercom, ans machine, and only the base phone needs a phone jack. From a different web site and refurb. When I found out the batterys were dead, I didn't want to send them back, because I may have gotten a refund instead of replacement, and I wanted the phones. Not to mention the hassle of packing, shipping, and customer service. I made it my business to make the batterys work, or find replacements at a reasonable price. Well, I fixed them with the above method, and they have been fine for six months now, and hold a charge when left off the base for two weeks.
There are three ways that a rechargable battery can fail. 1} leaking/corroded......get rid of it. 2} "dried out" ...reads 1 volt but has minimal power and won't charge. When put into a smart charger, like the one sold yesterday, the red light blinks, and it will not charge. You can get a charge into it with an old style overnight charger that is not microprosser controlled, but mark it, so that it is not mixed in with the good ones. Scratch a mark on the metal bottom. You can try to cycle it in a mini-mag solitare flashlight, that uses one aaa battery. Writh down how many hours it runs, and compare it to the run times of the good ones. I am buying a mini-mag solitare next time I go to R.S. just for that purpose.
out of 36 new bulk batterys that I bought, 3 were doa in this manner. Not worth sending back, so I will try to cycle them as described.
3} Shorted....Reads zero volts. If you have one of these in a cordless phone 3 cell pack it will read 2.4 volts. Thats 1.2 plus 1.2 plus zero. You can get a new pack for $16, or try what I did.
Thankfully, these Phillips DECT phones use replacable aaa, so all that bother and expense is avoided. Just test the batterys, or charge them in a smart charger, like the one sold yesterday, and replace the bad ones. Clean the contacts in the phone with alchohol too, while you're at it. Enjoy your phones, this is a top of the line set of phones.
