I have. And do when they are worth noting. I was really pleased with the flossers but doubted anyone wanted to see a glowing tribute to the bit of twine between my teeth.

Go Wings!

(Side note, I am going to Traverse City for training camp, my parents went a couple years ago and got my Kocur jersey signed by everyone there on the Cup team plus some tryouts and including Scotty Bowman, who I heard rarely signs jerseys!)

I can't see how you can call what TF shipped junk. The items are of good quality from well-known manufacturers. That a lot of people don't have a use of an item isn't part of the equation. TF never said that it was an item that eveyone would find useful. And please don't accuse me of something I didn't say. I NEVER said that I considered the items junk. (And trust me - I can afford to drop more in one day on "junk" than most people can do in an entire year.) I chose not to go for this box since I looked at the "universe" of items that TF had (that I hadn't bought already) and really saw nothing I wanted. Remember - they made no claims in this one about it being something they had never had before - so it was a fair assumption to make that it would be culled from previous items.

And don't use the analogy of your real estate agent screwing you - it doens't work. Implied merchantibility would ensure that you were being offered a house (Not bricks) - but unless specifically stated would not address the style or condition. Only that it was fit for sale. If you got a pile of bricks, that would violate the implied contract. From a legal (and moral) perspective, TF was very upfront about this MB. And trust me - I've gotten pissed about TF in the past and have been vocal in my displeasure. This time though - TF does NOT deserve the griping that's going on. They send out expensive boxes and people didn't llike what they got. What - are you going to go to AC and drop $5K in the slots and then bitch and moan when you didn't win???? Get real...

Okay, back to Dictionary.com, Mr Trump.

Junk:

(I got choosy rather than paste it all here just for brevity, I don't want to upset anyone for my long posts) Not talking

-noun
2. anything that is regarded as worthless, meaningless, or contemptible; trash.
–adjective
7. cheap, worthless, unwanted, or trashy.

So, do we meet the definitions here, Mr Trump?

And just how do you have the gall to tell me you have been vocal about your displeasure in the past but chastise me for doing the same now? I like this stuff just fine, I'd like it even better if I didn't have to throw it out and could actually use it. I am not supposed to make my feelings known about that??? When I opened the boxes I was actually kind of jazzed because they looked like really good items. This video thing is a piece of JUNK - I am glad the other poster is going to keep this TV on their bar, if they get good and ripped enough, they might be able to actually view whats on the screen. I admire the technology but despair the crappiness of it. I love gadgets, as I said before, even if a gadget doesn't work the way it was intended I will try to hack it up and play with the parts, or use it in a way not intended, but it can't be done with these items!!!

And as far as your AC reference, Mr Trump, you show me anyone who would ever drop five thousand dollars in slot machines and then not bitch and moan when they got zip at the end, well, I don't even have to say what I would do, you will never find that person.

I've expressed my displeasure before about several things. For a period of time boxes were shipped with nothing more than a used kleenex and a prayer as packing material. I was pretty vocal about that. And lest we not forget the "cell phone light" fiasco... Less said the better...

I've posted before about the items that were shipped. The XM is good is you have XM. It's a nice unit. The video thingy is a particularly dumb product as far as I'm concerned, but it's well made and works nicely. To summarily declare them junk because YOU personally don't have a use for them is pretty high and mighty. What - you opened the box, sniffed and declared "we are not amused..."??? In past posts (and you can quote me) I suggested that it would have been better if "standalone" items had been shipped. That being said - what was shipped WAS of good quality. It's NOT junk.

As for AC? I lost about $23K on a single session of roulette one weekend and never made it back. I got comped another nite and dinner. I sure as hell didn't think the room and board were worth anywhere near that - but I did NOT complain one bit...

But it wasn't 5 grand on slots. Unless playing the $20 a pull or higher machines, I cannot even fathom dropping 5 grand in slots, just in the time needed to do it. Shame on you Pray Dancing

And gambling is gambling, this is purchasing. No we have no idea what we are getting, but as you noted with the lights, we pay money, we should get something usable!

I didn't sniff anything, the battery chargers taught me not to do that. I got them out and as stated above ran them thru their paces (not the XM dock because it ONLY works with two models and has NO OTHER way of using it - someone at TF didn't stop to think of that before loading these boxes???). I have clearly delineated why I am dissatisfied with these items, I didn't just open it and figure - Crap! I, by nature of being only one human, speak only for myself and that should be understood in these forums, but some like to take them as wide-ranging, I-speak-for-all posts. Read thru mine, never made that assumption.

Obviously, someone who has one of the two XM radio models that work with that dock will be more than pleased with it. I have that brands docks for my Zune and two that work with any MP3 player and am very happy with them (got them right here at TF), the sound is good and they are fully usable without being locked to one or two relatively low selling item.

I also said where I was happy with this, my PDA holder cum camera case is quite nice.

If anyone is reading thru these, bought the box (after all this thread is for people who BOUGHT the box) and is happy with any of the large ticket items, PLEASE POST. Tell us what you find good about them. Rationalizing that it could have been worse doesn't help us or let TF know how dissatisfied we are and as they DO read these forums (and here I give TF huge props for actually doing that and in some cases responding to us!) perhaps things can get better. Look at the state of our nation. Politicians don't bother to think about what we think until we actually open our mouths and start pummeling them with how bad we think it is - immigration reform anyone?

I'm not complaining just to see the pretty letters on the screen, I am trying to let people know we are dissatisfied! Okay, that I am dissatisfied, but I doubt that I am alone in that!

I personally DO rave about the things I love. I thought that was the point of the boards. Discussing our opinions on the things we have purchased from TF. It would be a little pointless to only include the good. I have posted my opinion on some of my purchases here. It is just my opinion but I am entitled to it. I also have never posted anything rude or insulted anyone. Just stated my opinion.

Awesome. Wish I had the time to take off for a training camp. On the other hand, while I'm a HUGE Wings fan, I'd rather spend my vacation days in some exotic part of the world or some beach in a far away place. I DID go to Stanley Cup Finals games 1 and 2 though.

Yep, all comments welcomed, good, bad or indifferent. That's always been what thingfling themselves have promoted. And it is good, in the time I've followed this company, I have seen them make numerous numerous changes to improve as a response to feedback. Unfortunately: people feel a much greater need to complain then to praise. Also unfortunate, people are more likely to join in on the crowds opinion if they feel they are in the majority. Which is why every singl one of these MB/AMB threads invariably winds up with someone proclaiming "Well, it seems like MOST of us don't like this box"--when the reality is, I would certainly wager you, that if you could see the sales figures, much much much more people aren't saying ANYTHING, and I would further go on to wager that that is because the majority of them are happy and/or content. And those who do express their praise tend to state their opinion and then move on, you often never see them again. The oddity, is the group of people who felt negatively about their purchase, and choose to stick around to endlessly regurgitate their displeasure. I have no qualms with someone expressing their displeasure certainly, but there is a line between stating ones opinion, and.. whining. And although that is annoying certainly, to me, what they are really doing is screaming very loudly that they are playing a game without fully understanding the rules. If you do not see mystery boxes as a game, you are playing with fire--It is not that frequent regular MB buyers aren't ever deeply disappointed, on the contrary I have been disappointed many times, content most of the rest, and here and there amazed by MBs I've received. It is the handful of amazed moments, compounded by the usual just content setting which keeps me buying. But, I also keep tabs of when I do or do not have disposable cash to play with, and if I know I will miss the cash if I lose, I don't play with it. That is why I didn't buy this $123.45 box. When I am disappointed, I surely do vocalize it, and have, but I say my opinion and let it go--because--I lost this time, but I know it's just part of playing the game. I really wish more would ponder on this subject before diving into MB buying, it would save everyone, themselves included, a lot of grief.

And alternatively, of course, TF also offers another type of mystery box, the almost mystery box, for those not willing to dive head long into the fog of war. Think of the AMB as the training MB, or the penny slots. If you need to feel satisfied with all your purchases, or more often anyway, wait for the AMBs and buy those that sound appealing to you. Still some mystery, but you'll increase your chances of being satisfied by knowing generally what you're buying before you go for it.

Well sorry folks did not get what they thought was worth it . But then again I have got a few items off here and just knew that there was nothing that was going to be in a box for $123.45 that would make me want to risk it .

To another poster, I was in vegas and did play the slots .

while I did not speng $5k I did set a limit of $100 a day while I was there and had a great time and came out a little bit ahead Smile

But sorry just could not gamble on sucha high end box . I think the folks here should remember that this is a lot of close out and discountuined stuff so retail price does not apply

I didn't order this box, but I have been in on 3 mysteryboxes and have been satisfied with all of them. This is including the $10 MB fiasco (it was an okay deal).

The one thing I find interesting about this conversation is that people are coming down on malongfe as a complainer/whiner when he has legitimate problems with the contents, besides that they weren't what he expected:

1. The XM speakers are very limited in their compatibility with even XM radios, let alone any other device. (He says 1 or 2 radios only)
2. The video screen ipod thingy it not of a good quality.

It's silly for anyone to criticize his views if you're not going to deal with the above points, especially at $123.45. For instance, I am more than pleased with my ILO, but it was only $5 roughly. I gave away the PDA keyboards that don't work with anything (like the XM speakers) to a raffle where the winners probably still can't use them, but whatever, that box was only $10. At a higher price, my opinion would change.

My jaw is on the floor, I stand before you all humbled and ashamed. Today at work a guy came in and saw the XM dock on my back desk and asked what it was. I told him, he looked at it and said his wife had one of those in her car (meaning the Roady's). I told him he was welcome to it if he could use it and he looked stunned, asked me how much I wanted for it, I just replied, if you can use it, you can have it. So there is now a man making his wife happy tonight, and I get to apologize to you all. Somewhat.

I finally figured out what to do with the iPod vid dock. I had said I hooked up a pinhole cam to it and it looked like watching an old TV thru gauze (this cam has an amazing picture quality), played with it a little longer and hooked an old video camera to it. The resolutions must be more compatible because even though it still looks pretty bleary, I can at least see it a little better. So now I have a "spy cam" on top of my outside cubicle and can watch people walking down the hall toward my office and see them before they get to my office. IT guys out there will understand - I need time to clear the screen of the video card testing program I am running (also known as Duke Nuke'em).

See, they can find uses, but gosh darnit all, these things weren't made for this and the applications they are made for aren't all that great. Like I said before, I understand that is why TF has them and the manufacturers are flogging them to TF. I'm not mad about exactly waht I got, just that to use them you have to have something else for it to be functional

It amazes me that some of you don't seem to understand that even those of us violently decrying how upset we are DO understand it's a mystery, that's why we keep buying them. This is my 13th or 14th MB and definitely not my last, either. I'm hooked just as bad as anyone else. I just felt that we were hyped up for the letdown. And not that these were bad items, they just aren't usable by a lot of people.

Some posters are talking about how many people don't post, assuming if they think it's good they'll be jumped on. Have you all noticed that there is a community here that has a fairly small rotation of "the usual suspects", then a few new ones here and there (and we hope they stay in) that was the idea behind TF's big push for "community", they don't get anything out of these forums other than our thoughts, and I believe (rightly or wrongly) that they want to know what we think. They take a huge chance not moderating these and removing negative posts. For web savvy buyers, forums are the first place they go and negative posts could very well mean loss of sales. But they still allow it, allowing us to freely post our opinions, thoughts and wandering rambings. I applaud them for that, and hope they get as much good from our bad as they do from our praise. I work in IT, our Help Desk has a feedback option on all tickets. The negatives far outweigh the positive just because people rarely feel the need to praise good work, but they will always shout about bad. And when those positive ones come thru, the feeling is great!

And Royals, if yer reading this, I had another idea for you. Stand Alone Not Dependent Box. Who wouldn't buy a SANDBOX??? Dancing Bad Grin

So in my last post on this thread (for now), I have been able to use pretty much everything in the box in one way or another, the box is empty and out of my head now!

Wishing you all a lovely adieu...

Glad you found a use for everything in the end.

Personally I feel that thingfling hype has to be taken with a grain of salt like all advertising hype. I also think that the person who writes those ad copies (Maybe the Queen?) believes what they say, more or less. Think of it this way: The infamous $9.99 box from April was a total disaster for TF, not only in relations, but also in all the money and effort they lost sending out the free gifts, sending out the cards, the programmers they paid to re-work the coupon system to allow stacking over the coupons they sent out, etc. And there are other "disastrous" boxes that preceded that one, but are less memorable, too. They are not idiots, they know situations like that are bad all around. They may get off their mark from time to time, but I think when they put a box out, they actually do think most will like it.

You have NOTHING to be ashamed of. I think we all usually get to splitting hairs towards the ends of these threads. One thing we can both agree on is that item-specific accessories can be relativly useless to most folk.

It's nice that you were able to pass it forward with the XM. That kind of karma ususally is repaid ten-fold.

I think another thing we can all agree on is that the forums here on TF are pretty neat. Woot tends to have fanboys posting 3 word bits of gibberish. Here there is typically a lot of literate (and of course passionate) postings. Aside from the neat deals - it's what makes TF stand out in the crowded world of DOD sites...

Boy, I am really glad you guys kissed and made up. It got alittle hot there for a minute.

I do agree with you that TF is great about letting us post our thoughts and feelings. I really have enjoyed the forum. I do not have great use for these items either, but I like to pass things on. I also like the "sandbox" idea. I don't have most of the gadgets that some folks have, so I am clueless about some, but it is fun.

And my favorite thing in the box was the fan. What makes it great is that it is a thank you from TF. It is suppose to make you feel appreciated. Like went you work gives you a little something. My work is about to have their annual ice cream social. It's not a big thing, just a nice thing.Applause

I'm NOT 'jumping on the bandwagon' here....Bad Grin Bad Grin

I just want to say that even though we don't LIKE to hear all the complaining and fighting...EVENTUALLY we DO learn something Shock

For example:

malongfe said this:

Well!! Who would have thought?? Laughing

I've seen other posts in other threads similar to this...piss and moan...but then AHA! Since I can't use it for X, I made it into Y

So..keep on posting...complaints AND compliments...and DEFINITELY those crazy ideas we might not have thought of Laughing As long as we can 'kiss and make-up' in the end...it's ALL GOOD!!

Well, I sold my iPod theater, XM Radio dock, and Phillps remote. I kept the video camera case, Power Inverter 100, TF Fan, and Screwdriver set. After everything is said and done it ended up costing $42.41 for the things that I kept. Not quite worth it in my opinion, but I guess I will chalk it up to lesson learned. I would have sold the camera bag, but it probably would have been more trouble for what is worth. By the way, my iPod theater auction ended with a final value of $6.86. Someone got a steal.

I've gotta say one more thing -

I'm highly amused that this thread has stayed active for two weeks, and that for as many of us that were very disappointed in what we got, there are quite a few of us disappointed folks who came back to the forum to post multiple times.

Guess that tells you something about how disappointed we really are, eh?

It does........and although my earlier response on this thread could be perceived as a positive (and I did feel good at the time I wrote that post), I won't be tempted by any more expensive MB's without a clue on what would be inside. Honestly, I am a very optimistic, "glass is half full" kind of gal, but in reality, I honestly can't use anything I paid the big bucks for. I will hang onto them until xmas in hopes of gaining some of my hard earned cash back by attempting to sell them on eBay.

In reading other responses on this forum, my head was nodding in agreement to just about every one of them speaking to the fact we got gear that is not cross-compatible or stand alone (by itself - not iPod or XM driven).

So, first time fling was me getting flung. d'oh! I did bite on the $24.99 MB, but was overcharged on the shipping (over posted shipping cost of $4) and still can't find the coupon my TF account is supposed to have available for use!

I do like this community though - it's a great group of people!!Applause
