I think I'm going to shy towards the $1 MB in the future. I too am disappointed by the results of this box. I bit and still haven't gotten it but I'm assuming I'll get more of the same. Wouldn't have done the $400 MB, don't know why I went for this one either but you know, I'll sell the stuff on ebay, watch as the prices go down even further meaning I make less of my investment back... though, I've been able to flip the previous boxes for a profit before... so who knows... but not exactly pleased. I think this is my last MB from anything other than a place that uses it as a loss leader.

Well, I am disappointed. I had too high of expectations. Nothing I received I could use. I received an Altec Lansing Digital Theater for Ipod, which looks kind of cool, but I have a Zune. I think Zune would work with it, perhaps, since it seems to insinuate it works with all handheld video and mp3 players, but I just don't think it is something I can use. The suggested retail price on this is over $300 but it is selling on Amazon for $98. Then I received an Altec Lansing Stereo for XM Sateelite Radio Receivers. Why all these devices that require a secondary device to work? I definitely have no desire for the XM Satellite service. It sells on Amazon for $39. with a suggested retail of $99. The next item is the Phillips Universal Remote with LCD touchscreen. This is the coolest looking item in the box, but it has poor reviews on Amazon. Most people have trouble with it and it apparently is difficult to set up. Amazon is selling it for $85 with a suggested retail of $119. My own remote works fine. Don't want to mess with what works. Then I received a Xantrax 100 watt power inverter with usb connection for powering Ipods and other remote devices. I could probably use this. Its suggested retail is $49, but it is selling for $19. Finally I received unnamed, unpackaged headphones with padded earpads. The ear pads had fallen off and were dangling by the tiny wire that connected them to the headset. I hope they work, otherwise they look good. A good value I suppose for $123, but just not the items I had hoped for.

I can't believe so many people fell for this. But then again, a bunch of people also fell for the $400 Shnoop mystery box. It is no wonder why our economy is in such a s***hole. We put $ in the hands of idiots who don't know how to spend their money. I wonder how many people bought this box even though their house is in foreclosure or their rent is late.

MYSTERY BOXES SHOULD BE $1 A POP AND THE COMPANY SELLING IT SHOULD BE SELLING IT AT A LOSS. IF THE COMPANY THAT IS SELLING THE MB IS SELLING FOR A PROFIT, YOU WILL BE DISSAPPOINTED. GUARANTEED!

Fell for it? you make it sound like they bate and switched... PEOPLE ASKED FOR THIS!!!!!

You didnt have ot buy it .. you make a choice.. if your not happy dont buy again. Its a gamble and you wont always win...

I dont come here just for the MB the community as well as TF stands behind its items.

Though I do respect your opinions I do take offense with the use of the term Idiots and making the assumption that you will be dissappointed. I for one was nto dissappointed and name calling gets you nothing.

Yes, I was an idiot and bought this mb. Don't have an Ipod or XM unit to use with it. I must agree with the other posts in thinking for this kind of money it should have been a stand alone item.

Learned my lesson and it only cost me half a tank of gas. Shock

Kenerg, I can understand why you would defend TF (because you bought one), but I am not sure that the $124 you and others spent was very wise. I get the whole "it's a mystery box" thing and how the anticipation and guessing can be fun, but you get the same effect with a $1 mystery box. If you have not realized it by now, TF makes money off of these mystery boxes. They DO NOT do this to please the community. If you want to believe that they have your best interest at heart, by all means keep buying. The whole mystery box thing was popularized by Woot who did it as a loss leader, not to profit. All the other copycat companies ( TF included) does the MB thing to make a profit. Even their $10 MB are done for a profit, as was the $3 one. If you compare Woot to any of the other companies, you will see that using the MB as a loss leader has been very profitable for them. The other companies will continue to dribble along feeding on people (like you) who really think that they are getting a great deal. I'm sure that $124 could have bought you and your family something A LOT more useful. Keep convincing yourself that this was a great deal....

Obviously, since I already posted my displeasure, I couldn't agree more with the sentiment from qisgod, n3uka, etc. But name calling will get you nowhere. We were the idiots who bought it. Yes, we had an expectation that what we got out of the mystery box would be worth more then what we spent on it regardless of whether it was useful to us or if we sold it on the street. TF likes to claim that everything is an incredible deal and that they buy closeout warehouse merchandise (ie well below market value). But in this case I think I could have purchased all of these exact items brand new for only a few percent more - when we start talking about volume we'd be talking about much less, and if we talk about warehouse closeout prices I would hope that they paid less then 50c on the dollar for this stuff.

I'm definitely going to have to struggle to get my money back out of this deal with the going rates for these items. They may have high retail prices, but nobody wants them, so they sell for much, much less (ergo why they ended up in a MB in the first place).

A community forum is all great and everything, but when the community is built around a sales company and the products they push claiming we're getting a steal are only possibly worth what we paid for them with lots of disappointed people unable to use anything in the boxes, then the entire reason why the community exists is pushed aside.

I doubt they sold hundreds of these, so given that only a small percentage of people will post about an item they bought, and a large percentage of the people posting are unhappy with their purchases, you'd think that it would be obvious that there's a problem with this business model.

I'm still trying to convince myself that there's something redeeming in here, but I'm definitely not seeing it right now.

I didn't get the inverter, which sounds interesting -- but got all the some other stuff. Broken headphones and all. TF doesn't pack very well.

Am I upset? Yes, I guess so. I already had everything except the ipod player from other TF purchases -- when TF advertised it as all new stuff I was hoping that meant it wasn't stuff that was already sold on TF and wasn't stuff that was already in other MBs.

The player itself, while nice, does require a compatible ipod and/or an expensive cable. I sure am tired of seeing ipod accessories on TF. Perhaps I can use the player for something else. Like a tiny security video monitor.

Am I angry? Not too much... I took the bait and nothing much was promised. But probably will scale back on my TF purchases. Offers are very repetitive these days and I can't really trust the descriptions on the MBs. Oh well, live and learn.

Gotta love TF...They were great in the begining..Now they are corrupted and greedy. Same stuff again again again again again again....and again. Broken items, old tech stuff (Way old), and some items are just garbage. I feel like TF is trying to hand over their garbages to their customers, so they can enjoy their disgusting profits.
Counting AMB and any other flings lol
Total: 49 Flings...O M G I didn't even know I bought this much..(Only MBs..)

Have you noticed that they reduced their coupon-for-review offer to $3 now?

amazing...

people get items worth MORE than they paid...

and they whine about it...

simply amazing...

here's an idea...if you want to pick and choose exactly what you get...don't buy MBs...simple solution...

I'm also amazed by the people who are mad because now they can't make a profit reselling the items...why don't you all get TF's connections...and start selling for a profit that way?

39 flings as of 7-4-08 and counting

qisgod I do understand that they make money on the MB. Yes, I do understand there may come a point where when I get a box it will have nothing I can use. At that point I may be dissappointed or disgruntled. It just hasnt happened to me yet. Some peoples trash is other peoples treasure.

I know they dont do this to keep me happy (though shagging does occure and this is a positive). I have alot of disposable income and frankly 124 bucks doesnt hurt my wallet. I definiatly can see if I was short on money and didnt have an ipod or xm radio it would suck.

I am also a "Wooter" and have gotten quite a few bags of crap. Though most of those things I get in the BOC are broken refurbed and unable to gift away. Though I do have a nice bucket!

Rather then go back and forth as I am sure I cant convince you on my point of view and I am a stubern @ss so I know you cant convince me. We can agree to disagree and have a cold soda and say cheers! Applause Applause

I agree totally. I saw the post last night, and was so frustrated at that person, that I couldn't answer without being inappropriate.

Yes, people asked for a larger value MB. They got it. Good stuff, perhaps people can't use some of the items, but a good value. Nobody was forced to spend their money on this gamble. I, for one, am not an idiot...nor am I irresposible with my money. It's a shame that anyone would have to be so negative...especially when they didn't purchase it themselves. Shame on you.

ThingFling did NOTHING underhanded or shady with this MB. They made absolutely no claims about it's contents other than it was "high end" stuff. And it IS high end stuff from the universe of stuff that TF typically offers. The Philips remote is a very nice item - heck I've already picked up at least 3 of them at last count. I don't see the need for the mini-theater of the XM speakers - but then that's just my opinion of accessories like that. They are high quality.

Folks have always had the option to give away or sell stuff they dont like. While I would never be of the mind to blindly buy something thinking that I could sell it off if I didn't like it - that's what eBay or Craiglist are all about.

Like I said earlier - would you go to a restaurant and tell the waiter to "just bring me $125 of your best menu items"? What if you hated fish or were allergic to mushrooms, etc... Are you going to bitch and moan when you buy $125 of MegaMillions tickets and don't win?

This is NOT like the infamous cell phone light debacle. TF was very clear and honest about this MB. People HAD been clamoring for a more expensive one and they did thier best to come up with something that seems to have the broadest appeal. If someone read the description and ended up with visions of GPS and 10MP Digital Cameras - that's their own fault.

I didn't fling this MB because I had a vague idea of what it might be (culled from the archives of past items)...

TF continues to be one of my favorite sites...

I feel a need to try and set the record straight. How dare you say anyone fell for anything. TF didnt do anything wrong in the least, they made an offer and it was up to each of us to decide if we wanted to take them up on it. The items were high end items, and while some can't use some of the items, they will make nice gifts for others

I do not appreciate being called an idiot who does not know how to spend my money. And do not worry, my home is not in foreclosure nor is my rent late. How dare you say anything like this to those of us who are TF members? And, just for the record I did not buy 1 MB I bought 2 (TWO) of them.

Seems you know all about running a business and enjoy telling those who do how to run their business, tell you what. Why not start your own business seeing how smart you believe you are.

Normally I would not answer a post like this but this is so unfair to TF and to all TF members, I had to speak up.

I wonder if this one was an AMB with the ipod/mp3 video/speaker dock spelled out as the major gift, there would have been more sales and less complaints?? People would have seen how much it was selling for elsewhere and said "wow, there must be some other cool stuff going in"

AMBs rule--then you know what you are getting into, a least a little

but in this case, $123.45 full mystery-- you fling it you wing it...yadayada stuck with it for better or worse (unless it's defective, in which case the royal court should take care of you as they have in the past) Wink

(for the record, I did not fling this one...trying to stick to a tighter budget for fun stuff)
