All you do to shut them off is close the window (or have the 2 pieces make contact again).

I ordered these the first time and got them the day they showed up again..
Yes, they are loud. I put one on my mom's bedroom sliding door. It's easy to remove the door for the battery/on off switch, just takes about 1 second to do that. I'm happy with my purchase.
