It's summer time. Barbeques. Beach. Hurricanes. Blackouts. Power shortages. Don't get caught defenseless. Did you know that during a power failure, your cordless phone will not work (even with a fully charged battery)? The Cordless Phone Emergency Backup automatically provides power to the cordless phone base unit, enabling you to make important calling the power company, police/fire department, family/friends, etc. The phone automatically activates when the power goes out and provides over 4 hours of continuous talk time. The unit is also equipped with a built in phone line surge and spike protection. One retails for almost $10.00 plus shipping. We will send you 2 for $6.99 plus shipping. That's a 40% savings.

However, they're charging $6.99 not $5.99. I've noticed that a lot on this site. The description says one price, but the actual price is completely different. What's the deal? Kevin

Hmmm.... I'm going to take a leap here and saw that many of us that visit here probably have VOIP of some kind, which probably means that the base is next to the router. On that assumption, you need to power the router as well. Furtrhermore, I would also say most of us probably already have our router on a UPS, which would presume that the phone base is already plugged into the SAME UPS. So, if it was 10 years ago, this would be an AWESOME deal.

Good idea if it were years ago but considering most people have cellular phones and some don't even have a land line anymore, it doesn't seem like this would be a big seller but then I am not really grounded in reality these days.

I simply plug in a corded backup in the event of a power failure. Sometimes it pays NOT to throw everything out (can you say packrat?), LOL...

I've kept my wireless router and phones on a UPS for some time - thanks to a closeout at the local store that had a table of them for $10 each. One on my phone, one on my router, one on my garage door opener... now if I could only find solar cells to charge those batteries I would be very green!

Is this a responsible rechargable battery, or a one time disposable model?

We've got a corded backup phone for power outages and such, but all the important phone numbers are stored in the cordless phone memory. For me, this is a good deal

We recently had a severe thunder storm and lost power for several hours due to a large number of downed trees. Though cell phones were available the idea of back up for the cordless phones was discussed and here they are. Bought two sets and will turn extras over to key employees for their home phones (all cordless) leaving them "no" excuse for not staying in contact, even with pending hurricane season.

Wrote this earlier today, couldn't post till now cause coder and spy broke the forum (good job fixing it though!): Argh, I keep missing these! They are similar to a unit by Bell South that thingfling included in one of the Holiday Edition mystery boxes way back around Xmas time last year. These things are awesome. They are mini UPSes ,Uninterpretable Power Supply, If you don't mind a much larger foot print you could wait for some cheap deals on some lower rated computer UPSes which would have the advantage of being able to plug more things in for backup. But these little guys have the advantage of being small, and working with just about any ac adapter. Unlike traditional UPS devices you do not plug the original AC adapter from the device you're trying to backup in to the UPS, no with these you leave ac adapter plugged in to the wall, disconnect the round plug from whatever it is, plug that into one of the phone backup plugs (it has several to accommodate all sizes) and then plug an appropriate size head on the backup's output cable and plug that into the phone/device. REMEMBER, these are marketed as being cordless phone backups, BUT they will work on practically anything with a standard round plug ya find on most AC adapters. If you don't already have your modem on a conventional UPS for example, you could plug it into one of these to provide backup power to it. (course, you'd probably then also want a conventional UPS to plug into your computer too so you could actually make use of the modem during the power outage) Not everyone has done away with their land line. We still have ours here. And during a true emergency situation it is best to have all options available to you. We had a big power outage a couple of weeks ago due to a tree falling on a main power artery during a big thunderstorm--for a while the cell towers seemed out of commission while landline was working.

I bought 3 sets, so 6 all together and it appears that none of them work properly.
The 1st one started blinking when plugged in and has been plugged in for 5 or 6 days and is still blinking indicating it's still charging. According to the manual, it should be fully charged within 72 hours. If I unplug the power brick while the phone is in use, the blue light comes on and the power is disrupted to the phone and it disconnects during the switchover. After that I'm able to use the phone. I haven't tested how long it will last.
The 2nd one when first plugged in blinked for a few seconds and then showed solid green which is supposed to indicate that it's fully charged. If I unplugged the power brick it powered off immediately. After being plugged in for 5 or 6 days it appears to work pretty much like the 1st one.
I just plugged in the other 4 and they all blinked for a few seconds and then showed solid green which is supposed to indicate fully charged. If I unplugged the power brick it powered off immediately. Time will tell if this gets better.
Shouldn't these maintain the power to my phone when the AC power goes out?
Is it really possible that I got 6 units and they are all defective?
Anybody else have a good/bad experience with these?
