I was listening to National Public Radio yesterday, and I heard about a website called The Something Store ( www.somethingstore.com). The premise is that you can order "something" for $10 (including shipping). You can order up to 5 "somethings" in one order, and they guarantee that they will all be different; additional orders may or may not contain repeats. Has anyone ordered anything from this site? It seems like a nice option when I'm going into mystery box withdrawal. I know exactly what you mean! I'm packing to leave for a two week trip and wondering if I should order "something" so it will be here when I get back. Deb--
Yes, I read some of the reviews. It sounds like a fairly typical mixed bag of people who knew it was a mystery and people who thought that "all the mysteries would be above average." I'm sure if those buyers had read our reviews during the rant-fest we had a few weeks ago, TF would have looked much more negative than that.
I sure don't think it will replace TF. The community doesn't seem to be as strong, there are no AMBs (though come to think of it, TF hasn't done one of those in a while either), and there doesn't seem to be anything that is a parallel to the Royal Court and their interest in shagging.
One thing that's different is that they seem to have a much wider array of kinds of items, everything from winter scarves and mittens to iPods to coffeemakers. That variety could be a benefit or not, depending on what people are interested in.
But for $10 once in a while, it might be fun.

Interesting site. It reminds me of all the Mystery Box auctions popping up on ebay. The reason I prefer Mystery Boxes from sites like TF or Woot is because I have a fairly good idea of what I might get based on what they have sold recently. Sometimes I am surprised, of course, but I often have an idea. But...we all need a complete surprise in our lives on occasion. I really wish they did something based on age on some of these sites. It would be fun to send my son a Mystery Box full of 5/6/7 year old favorite items so he could join in the fun. **Ooooh! Thing Fling...how is that for an idea???** Who knows. If I find some great treasures during our community garage sales tomorrow and make some coinage through ebay, I might splurge on a complete surprise or two.

I prefer the MB from TF just for the reason of the forums and all the "special People".... hehe...

OK, after this post, I had to try it. I am less than thrilled and won't be doing it again. I ordered 2 " Somethings " and I got a - Desk Clock - http://www.revdesign.biz/servlet/the-624/Ball-Modern-Battery-Operated/DetailI found others for $11.99 so the price is in line but the thing is junk. It is a very cheap, light, thin plastic. This thing will end up at Goodwill. Cosemetic Bag. I can't find a link on this one. It is by Alan Stuart. Looking at his line, $10 seems about right. It is small. 4" x 7", and flat. So, I don't know what I could actually put in it. It will sit in a closet or cabinet. So, now that I have been the gunnea pig. You have a better idea of what " Something " is. PS, if you could. My dog needs some good thoughts. She had a tumor removed yesterday and we won't have the biopsy results until the 14th.

What is your dog's name? The photo is so cute! Thanks! I took the picture while she was resting on me this morning. Her name is Happy. My son got her from Santa when he was in 1st Grade. ( He is a Senior in High School this Fall. ) I still remember him running around screaming that he got the puppy he asked for. He named her and the name on her papers is " Morgan's Happy Christmas " My son is Morgan. I sure hope this turns out well. She is a pretty special little dog. My daughter had surgery last week too. She is fine now but I am ready to drop. 2 family members recovering from General Anesthesia back to back is too much for me.

Ladybugmo, here is a thought for you and your grand Boston lady that the tumor is benign and all is well.

We send healing thoughts to Happy. And thanks for being the first to try the website and posting results.

About a month ago I ordered from the Something Store for the first time. It took 3 weeks to get here and emails to them were unanswered. It finally came and it was an electronic Suduko (?) game. I was thrilled...... Never again.

I orderd 3 "things" and received the cosmetic bag, a cheap mixer ($6 at WalMart) and a robe made out of a waffle-type material. Very disappointed and I don't plan on buying from them again.

Three Words .... DON'T DO IT I ordered 1 $10 box and told my husband about it. Before receiving the box, he ordered $20 worth. The first order was an Alan Stuart Champagne bag - that's it! How in the heck did they consider that worth $10. The second order came in and it was a set of Giovanni (??) racing cufflinks and an Alan Stuart cosmetic bag with a zillion zippers. It's called a zip-zip bag. Absolutely worthless stuff - even on ebay. Kem

Oh boy! I'm glad I got the cheap clock. The egg thig is just too much. Although, if I were still married, I would have my Mother In Laws Christmas gift ready to go.
