I think I may have to leave the forums for a little while also. I took my cat Leo to the vet on Thursday due to him getting crystals and not being able to pee. They had to put him under anesthesia and insert a catheter to unblock him. They sent him home on Sat with some meds for me to give him twice a day. Ever since I brought him home, he seemed tired and moved slower than normal. I figured that it was due to the meds. This morning I woke up and he is having a hard time breathing, so I take him back to the vet. As soon as I got there (7:45), the assistant took him back and started him on oxygen. The vet came in and talked to me at about 8:00 and said she was doing some tests and it sounded like she could get him fixed up. At 9:51 I received a call informing me that Leo had just died. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad The vet said it was due to fluid in the lungs and she thinks a heart problem.

There are just too many cat pics in here for me right now. I am very sad and I can't stop thinking about why didn't she catch these problems while she had him from Thurs to Sat? I am also mad at them because when I went to see him one last time, I told the receptionist my name, she went to the back, and when she came back out she said "Doc said to put you in a room after you pay your bill." Why couldn't they just send me a bill!?! That is not something I wanted to deal with right then! I just wanted to see me baby one last time! Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad

I think I am going to have to take my other 2 cats to a different vet and have them checked out just to make sure they are healthy. This would have been easier if it was Tiny since I have only had him about a year. Leo I have had for at least 6 years, He is the one who would sleep beside me every night. He is the one who could tell when I had a bad day and would come lay on my lap and lick me. He... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Too sad to type anymore...

I'm so sorry! Crying or Very sad

It's very understandable and if you ever need anyone to talk to PM me! It doesn't matter whether you've had a pet for 6 months. a year, 6 years or 23 years like my sweet Angel (who is now waiting for me at the bridge)...it always hurts way too much..there's nothing like the love of a pet! I've only had Lucy and Ethel for about 1.5 years and I think I would die without them. It still hurts without Angel.

Veed went thru something similar with his cat recently also with a misdiagnosis. Sad

I'll miss you while you're gone...everyone will miss you..be sure to come back when you feel up to it.
Your heart will be in my prayers!

So sorry for your loss. Grr to the vet receptionist for lack of compassion. Evil or Very Mad

Hope your other kitties are OK, and I would definitely take them for a second look. (but that's just me) This is one of the most supportive forums I've seen - we can all pretty much empathize with (pet) loss because we've been there. So, don't be afraid to speak up and ask for support!

I'm so sorry for your loss, aacwks. That is a tough loss, sounds like your kitty was a true friend. Crying or Very sad
I had a similar experience with my 17 year old dog. That vet misdiagnosed for months til I took her somewhere else, where she died. If you want any advice, I say face them now, ask them why. Don't wait.

Not to be mean or cruel, but people do not understand how many times a Veterinarian has been stiffed on payments. If it were your human hospital you would have to pay for services rendered too. Animal hospitals do not have or make enough money to be able to carry billing accounts, they sometimes have a hard enough time paying thier own bills ...drugs ARE expensive believe it or not, and so are the services to which your pet will be taken care of. I am sorry that they didnt take you to the room and charge you out there and with some compassion, that is the least they could do for you with respect. And , yes the statement from your receptionist most likely did come from the Veterinarian . I am also sorry I misspelled you name aacwks, in my last post it was a slip of the keys I had. Regardless , I know what I typed here seems heartless but it is the fact. I am truly sorry for the loss of your pet.

Deepest sympathy's, Aacs. When you do come back you have friends here who will be happy to see you. Try to take this time to remember all the joy you shared with Leo in his lifetime, celebrate the time you had together--try not to let anger cloud your thoughts. It is natural to want to blame, and certainly that receptionist at least was rudely insensitive, but the anger and blame will just run you in circles and these things just happen for no rhyme or reason at times. Leo sounds like a great cat, and a good buddy. What a blessing you had 6 wonderful years together. Peace be with you, Aacs.

I know I haven't been here much lately, but I wanted to stop in and say thanks for the support. I have been working a lot at camp and other jobs since the pay isn't much at camp.

I also have more sad news. My dad died last night. He was really healthy and nobody saw this coming. He was at dinner and they thought he had a heart attack. They rushed him to the hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, MI (35-40 miles away) where they said it wasn't a heart attack, but it was a major blood vessel that had ruptured. However, they didn't have a surgeon available, so they had to wait for a helicopter to take him to a hospital in the lower peninsula. Once they got him to that hospital, they opened him up and found that all of his arteries were super thin, and there wasn't much they could do for him.

I will be leaving in the morning to go up there and I will be gone for about a week.

Lets try this again today...

(Checking in from the library up here.)

Thanks everybody. Tuesday was hard (funeral) but the rest of the time up here things have been good. I'm getting to see relatives that I haven't seen in a while and I even met a relative/cousin/? who is close to my age who I had never met and we had a great time getting to know each other and having fun together. He is definitely a new friend for life. I have also heard many great stories about my dad and other relatives. Today we are going to get my grandpa's boat out (been in storage for 2 years) and try to get him on it. He couldn't use it for a while due to getting a new knee. He is about to turn 94 and he has really slowed down so this my be one of the last times he gets to use it while all of us are around to help him get in and out. We are doing lots of things my dad loved to do with us. Yesterday we went out and cut sticks so we could have a hotdog roast around a bonfire and we took a ride in his work boat around some of the islands. He wouldn't want us to sit around being sad, so we aren't. We are getting out and living life just like he would have wanted.
