Now that I finally have a good CD/DVD burner, I'm looking to DL some music. Anyone know a few good/safe sites? Something that has a decent selection and won't break the bank. TIA.

Can you give us some idea of your tastes in music? I've got a few music blog sites bookmarked, mostly obscure, esoteric stuff or albums that haven't been released to CD. Once you start with one music blog, start following links they provide and you'll find more than you want. "A boat's a boat, but the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat! I use Napster...yes thats right folks..I PAY for my music downloads! Although I do miss Napster when it was free..but oh well. Anyway...it's only 9.95 a month or 14.95 a month..depending on what you want..I have the Napster To go so I can download unlimited to an MP3 player and use it on up to three different computers for 14.95 a month...and it's .99cents per track if you want to burn to a CD. For me it's worth it since I have a kick a$$ surround sound hooked up to the main computer (I bought it right here on ThingFling! a 400.00 system for only 198.00!) so I just play my playlists at a flat rate per month. When I do decide to create a CD it usually comes to around $12-13 per CD which isn't too bad since you can create what you want on a CD and not be controlled by having to purchase a CD for just a few tracks you like. I usually look for uncommon stuff and never have a problem finding it on Napster..seems everything is in there. As a bonus..NO spyware, NO adware..no popups....etc etc! I also hear alot about Torrent..I don't know much about it..but I hear alot of people here use that..maybe they'll pop in and give their opinion. My son uses Morpheus..it has everything on that too including programs and movies...and adware and spyware and popups and......God knows what else! Then there's Imesh...not so great..I used that for a short while..it's also a pay for one..but not as expansive a library as Napster.

My stereo on my bike plays MP3's, so I have a couple CD's I carry around depending on what I want to listen to. Right now it's Techno/Trance/Breakbeat that I downloaded from a free site. Some great stuff, some good stuff, and some that was a waste of the download (IMO), but still glad I did it. If you don't have high speed internet, stay away from this site, some of the MP3's are over 3 hours long. I haven't downloaded from there in awhile, but I could find the site if anyone wants it.
Den Kozlov sounds like a lot of the stuff on the free site, so I bet you could find something there AVA. I'm listening to it on his MYSPACE page.

If your posting starts becoming scarce at TF, I'll know why. I started by looking for Lounge music, The Three Suns in particular, and I came across Psychotic Leisure Music. There, you'll find Lounge, Ambient, Rock, Jazz, even soundtracks for Half Life and Quake. Then, just start following links conveniently located on the right side of the page. Another rare find was Jack Elliot's Zounds! What Sounds!. If you like Lounge music and cartoon sound effects, here's two great sounds that sound great together. Also in the same vein, Jack Fascinato's Music From A Surplus Store. Another one of my favorite sub-genres is Spy music, so check out The Crime Lounge. Although it's not strictly a music blog, I found a few Raymond Scott rarities and some other offerings at I'm Learning To Share, just an overall fun site. Enjoy! Thanks guys ... I'll have to check some of this stuff out in the morning when I get up, who am I kidding, afternoon. Sounds like some intresting stuff. And for those who asked what kind of stuff we were looking for, it's prolly easier to tell you what we don't like. Not really into rap, religious, or anything too country. I've become more of a classic rock kinda girl, stuff to kind of mellow out too. Kids and the nosie drive me nuts all day. Hubby still prefers heavier stuff, a mix of older and newer stuff. So I guess more or less, we're open to almost anything. Had a friend awhile back swear by limewire ... anyone have any comments on the site?

I use WWW.Betterpropaganda.com for Indie music(off label) but if you like popular music before it becomes popular you can get it here. I got Green Day , Modest Mouse, and some other great stuff..oh yeah Matisyahu as well before they became popular. I might not be in my twenties, but I am still cool!

Whole buncha links on there, live recordings etc.... check them out. A guy on there Sirius Break has a MP3 on there think it's under breakbeats, called "title reserved for someone" that I think is kinda cool, and he remixes it as "old tunes, new vibe" that kicks. I've probably downloaded just about everything off that site at one time or another and currently have over 12 GB of muzik just from there.
Another thing anyone can do, is google "free MP3 music" and you'll find a ton of sites, whether it's to your liking or not Another CD I have for my bike has everything from A to Z on it, ABBA to ZZ Top with everything in between. Got some Garth Brooks, KISS, Lynn Anderson, Tracy Chapman and Ozzy. Now that's varied.
Good luck and hope you find something you like.my family tree

I would reccommend a music service called Rhapsody. You can buy songs individually for 89 cents a piece or you can pay a monthly subscription and download all the music you want, but if you end the subscription, you lose all of your music.
