So I always have to have a book, so what? The new Odd Thomas series book came out today. Of course, I had to grab it. Had a B&N coupon for it(40% off) and couldn't resist. The new Laurell K Hamilton book comes out in 1 week from today, so I have to have this finished by then!

My first book I ever read by him, I was in about 8th grade or so I'm guessing...It was "the Door to December". Why did I read that? because there was a character named Melanie and I was born in December. that was a really strange book though. He's very close to King, but not so science fiction/freaky stuff. Just strange stuff. Except for Odd Thomas.

I get those coupons too, you have to use your 'rewards' card for the coupon to work, so just have your dad sign up for the card (free) and he can use the printed coupon. Koontz for me is hit and miss. I LOVE some of his books (Lightning, strangers) and have been really disappointed in some. I haven't read any of the Odd Thomas series. How many are there? And what's the first one? I'll pick it up.

Their card is $25 a year if you want that, but that coupon is better then with the card(the card saves you 20%)

Question for all you avid readers: I enjoy reading and would like to do more, but between working and ThingFlinging I find that I haven't added a new book to my shelves in quite some time. I'm preparing to go on a long trip in the next week that involves to 15hr flights I figured this would be a perfect chance to grab a good couple novels and catch up on some great modern fiction I may have missed. So, I was hoping that some of you would make recommendations for me for what I should try. Here's a few of the books on my shelves that are favs: The Time Traveler's Wife Shogun Talisman/Black House Dark Tower Series Dark Rivers of the Heart (I last read this one almost 2 decades ago, but I remember liking it) ^put this in here for you Koontz fans Although, Koontz is hit or miss for me. and anything by Philip K. Dick Hmm, I guess I enjoy anything that is written for adult audiences and has a splash of sci-fi/fantasy/horror thrown in. I look forward to hearing what you all enjoy.

Wow.. asking a bunch of readers to suggest books, I expect this thread is about to blow up..
I'll start it with 2 Koontz books since you mentioned him. He's very hit or miss for me.. but I think you'd really like Lightning and Strangers. They're both pretty old.
You also mentioned King. Most people that read his stuff have read everything already but I really like his short stories if you haven't read those.
I'll stop for now, because I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.

Oh.. I forgot to ask where you're going? I just went to Australia for a month (April) and had a 14 flight from LA to Sydney. It's a really long time to sit in one spot.

To Hawaii!! With some layovers I think your right about people enjoying the chance to voice their book recommendations, so I'm going to start a new thread and move this discussion there. That way this thread can remain on the topic of Koontz's new novel. Thanks for the recommendations though. I think I've read Strangers.

How many are there? And what's the first one? I'll pick it up. The first Odd Thomas book is called "Odd Thomas." There are 4 books out now, I believe, and another coming out this year, but I don't know when, called "In Odd we Trust." Odd Thomas is a guy who sees and talks to dead people. "Well, I've wrestled with reality for 35 years, doctor, and I'm happy to state I finally won out over it." ~~Elwood P. Dowd~~ ~(James Stewart) in Harvey~

Yes, there are 4 of them out as of now. The latest is a novella, a smaller fill in novel preparing you for the larger novel due out later this year.
