flonase gave both my son and I sinus infections. We can't use that. I've tried Claritin and store brands, but i'm going to try zyrtec next. Hopefully I can find something that works

I lived in Nevada when I was little and went to highschool and college in Florida. I never had a problem with allergies until I moved to Washington, D.C. right after undergrad. It hit me like a ton of bricks one spring. I've been on almost all of the "allergy" medications and what works for me is Allegra and Singular (singular is crazy expensive). The good thing is usually I don't have to use medication past May, so my time's almost up.

In my experience Benadryl is the absolute best.. Too bad it'll knock ya out and get you high all at the same time though! My preference was always Allegra, I have not tried any of the new stuff. Also if you're into home remedies, if you get some honey (supposed to be from local area so the honey is derived from the plants pollinating your nose) and take a spoonful a day.. Well I don't know if it actually works but I do it every morning outta habit and it has seemed like the past few years my allergies have not been so bad. And since I don't mind a spoonful of honey every day...

I miss DC. We keep saying we'll get there for vacation one of these years. Now with the gas prices, I doubt it.

Coming from a family of allergy suffer's I can tell you that each and and every person has different results from all of the medicines, my Dad for example gets those infections from Flonase. He takes Claratin d and it does it for him. My sis on the other hand has singulair, as well as injections , etc. I cannot take Benadryl beacause it makes my heart palpatate and then it crashes me. Claratin does nothing for me and Allegra wears me down like a tired puppy. Zyrtec does make me sleepy and dry mouth but that is not as bad as any of the others. Lucky for you , Kool Aid, that your allergies are very seasonal. Where I live there are flowers all year long and every season is allergy season. We have Citrus in the early spring, pines , cottonwoods, flowers all year long. Fresh ocean breezes dont do a world of good at all. Hope everybody keeps it sneeze free!

I get hit at strange times, a couple of years ago, mine started in October and quit in April, worst congestion I have ever had, Dr. tried 'em all, what finally worked was Singular and Advair. I just tried Xyzal...did absolutely nothing for me, talked to my pharmacist friend, she told me that Xyzal was just Zirtec with a different name. Since Zirtec went OTC, the company that makes it "reformulated" it and it's basically Zirtec all over again but at a higher price than the OTC. What hospital are you serving your time at Tyler? I live in MD but work in DC. Because of my job, I have probably been to most if not all the hospitals in the MD/DC/VA area.
