I figured out why these are dimmer than usual...take the design thingy off..that blocks alot of the light that comes through these...once you take it off (you can kinda pry it at the edges and then just pull it off) you get more light

Thank you!Applause I was suspecting it was the design after last nights debate on this thread. BUT I didn't realize they were decals/stickers that could be pulled up. I haven't tried it yet but will shortly. Thanks! You probably single handedly made these useful to me, me poor eyes couldn't make use of the paltry amount of light they currently give off.

What color are the lights behind the design? Are they white-ish or that green-ish color I've seen in other electroluminescents?

Cool. THanks! My stickers will be coming off too. Smile

Hey Debbie, do you have a technique for removing the sticker/decal? On first quick attempt, I had no luck, the edges SEEM like they're under the plastic molding, I wasn't able to get an edge. But I will try harder later. I am wondering if the plastic molding will snap open if pried a little. Just wondering if you've found any easy technique?

It's NOT a sticker! Laughing I just took one off to see.

I used a pair of tweezers, but actually, the tweezers kinda cut through it (it lifted up at first) So I pulled it and it came off.

Neat I'll look for some tweezers. What'd you think of the light level with design on? I am getting called old over here for think it's insufficient!

Oh..it wasn't bright enough!! i guess I was assuming that there were holes or something for the light to come through...like in the pattern. I hadn't really looked at them that close Think

But someone said they heard that as they got older, they got dimmer.

Haha well I think Debbie is right that the designs block most of the light. Try out that one you just pulled the design off of, it's probably tons brighter.

Wow! NOW these are nice. They were fine when your eyes adjusted to them, but now with the pattern off, they are bright! I'd say they're at least 10x brighter than they were, and you don't need to wait for your eyes to adjust.

Plus they glow a nice light green instead of patterned.

One other thing, be careful when removing the pattern. I removed two by hand, pinching the top towards the bottom until it came out. The first one went OK, but the second ripped one of the contacts off of the EL layer... It might be better to take the top out and cut the bottom portion off instead of pulling it out. Just a thought.

GE should have changed the design slightly and marketed it as having swappable patterns. Might've sold better... Wink
The excruciating magnitude of your philosophical confabulations are simply too voluminous for the diminuity of my comprehension.

Debbie, you are a genius! I just removed two of the pattern covers from two or my lights... The difference is astounding.

Th pattern is not a decal or sticker but rather a VERY opaque translucent matte sorta transparency film. It is held down by friction mostly from the bevel. It can be hard to get it sliding at first, but once you get it to bump upwards it's pretty easy to get out the rest of the way. The thumb method Tamachii used didn't work for me, just not enough traction. So what I did was I took a flat head screwdriver, wrapping the blade in a dish towel and then with the blade running parallel with the top and bottom bevel press downwards from the top, blade should be positioned more towards the top. It should bump up and come out of the top and side edge pretty easily. Then if you take what came up and pull up parallel with the plane of the light the bottom will come out pretty easily without breaking anything, but be careful for as Tamachii warned you could break the internal contacts down there. You'll be left with a pretty white looking glossy film. Plug it in and you get a nice bright light green illumination which is MUCH brighter than when it was covered by that almost opaque pattern.

ok its like a piece of thick plastic and you kinda have to use something to pry the top edge off once you get that you just pull the rest out....lemme know if you got it...yes those do make quite a difference as to how much light comes through because the thick plastic with the dark design kinda kills the true light that comes from these

Yep but you are the true hero, I might've never bothered trying to pull up the design if you hadn't mentioned it comes off! Thanks a bunch.

I'm wondering if there isn't SOME way to get little holes into the design so that it lets more light out AND keeps the cool designs Think Think

UPS/Fedex will not deliver to PO Boxes. Only the USPS can.
