I thought EL lights like this would develop dark spots instead of simply dimming. I only tried one and it was very dim, but it's just enough to see after your eyes have adjusted to the dark.

It's too bad they don't have a pass through outlet so I could put something else on the plug.

I had these from years ago (and its true it never burns out) no they don't give alot of light but they do give enuf light when its the middle of the night like previously stated...its just enough that you can see (once your eyes are adjusted to the dark...like the middle of the night) I love these!!! I think if you are normally used to a regular night light you need to just give these a chance..I put them in my lower sockets so it kind of illuminates a path so to speak

Alright guys--well then I will concede that these must be giving off as much light as they are designed for. BUT like I said I have other electrolumiscents and these output a PALTRY amount of light compared to my others. Personally I do not want to be stumbling around in the middle of the night by these GE lights, I would HURT myself, I'm telling you. But your mileage will vary on what you need/prefer I guess.

Sorry, that was a bit rude. Not calling you old at all... I had changed that almost as soon as it was posted, but not soon enough Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

By the way, any idea on what to do with 36 of these things? I'm a sucker for "free" Laughing

No worries. Very Happy I am an ancient 27--but you are correct my eyes ain't what they used to be. I believe you guys that these are decent, but as for me the other electroluminiscents I have give off the right brightness that I personally need. Much brighter than these, but not so bright I'd call them evasively strong lights either.

These make good nightlights for kids rooms. Cool to the touch and not so bright that it keeps them up.

Haha I am wondering the same thing. I flung two orders of the photo albums and that put me at free shipping and well two more orders of these were absolutely free (an awesome feeling, first time!) So... despite my feelings about them....

So I have decided to fling these as not too much risk involved like the other incident with a certain $9.99 item. So now how does the You owe me one thing work that was sent with the cards??? I am hoping thingfling will restore my faith in this site so comon guys make me happy to be a flinger again so I can spend some dough here Smile

Also as noted about the certain item above will these be shipping faster than that did? I am one state over and the last one took over 2 weeks to be received. Will this be just as long?

I flung some too. There are a few more things coming up today that I want to check out, so I'm hoping the shipping discount will make a difference later.

Just a honest FYI from someone who bought these last time they were offered and just received them. Wink

They do not work as stated in the description, they do not illuminate 1-2 feet in front of the light itself let alone a pathway for you to walk or see. If you get up in the middle of the night you will still walk down the hallway and stub your toe; bang into the wall; trip on toys or clothes on the floor.

I realize the price is right, free but most still have to pay for shipping. I ended up using one of my $3.33 discounts and only paid $2.67 for them last time so I am not out all that much.
Eh?

I figured out why these are dimmer than usual...take the design thingy off..that blocks alot of the light that comes through these...once you take it off (you can kinda pry it at the edges and then just pull it off) you get more light

Kimota, thanks, I will try these out for a little while longer, but I am not so sure about these, my current opinion is that they are very very old. I have two electroluminescents from a past MB of old, different brand, they are MUCH brighter. And behave as you describe. These GE ones I was sitting in the dark staring at last night, they really didn't help at all.

What color are the lights behind the design? Are they white-ish or that green-ish color I've seen in other electroluminescents?
