Greekgirl asked me in the Smoker's Freebie thread if my insurance paid, or helped pay, for my Chantix to stop smoking. First... And I can't say THAT loud enough!! My insurance is through my work...which I should be grateful since I work in a Deli....but it SUCKS!! No, it did NOT help pay for any of it..it was around $150.00 for a month's supply...which is also why I'm holding onto the 3 packs I have left! BUT..what I really want to say is this: WHY is it that insurance companies RARELY (there ARE some that actually DO) pay for Preventative medical help? C-scans, MRI's...healthy Dr. visits or prescriptions to prevent something REALLY bad down the road?? This really irratates me. ANYONE?? 49 Flings Flung and WAAY more to come!Female in case you don't know LMAO

HMM This is VERY interesting!!! Someone shared this with me and I thought I'd post it here...I did NOT know this!! QUOTE: As I work for a health insurance company. The insurance company is not actually who decides what is going to be covered and what is not. The company you work for decides when they are negotiating their contract. For example. the insurance company may present a package covering everything (preventative, accupuncture, therapy, etc) with a price depending on the demographic and # of employees covered. The company you work for negotiates from that point, and may drop just about anything that is not state-mandated in an effort to cut costs. They decide based on costs what your copay will be, what your deductible is, how many visits you get to the chiropractor, whether preventative is covered, and on and on. This is why two people may have insurance through the same insurance company but have much different benefits. Hope this helps. So it's actually our JOBS fault we have crappy insurance!!! 49 Flings Flung and WAAY more to come!Female in case you don't know LMAO

They won't pay for a lot of my meds, and no explanation as to why... My dad's insurance won't pay for his chemo treatments either - and they are really expensive. I don't think "good" insurance exists anymore....

Maybe I'm naiive or maybe I'm lucky, but I think my insurance is pretty decent. They've paid for my doctor's visits, tests, treatments, and medications leaving me only with copays of about $20 on average. I think some of it has to do with the fact that California has unusual laws concerning what insurance companies are allowed to get away with. I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

I work for an insurance company. We promote preventative care and offer preventative services to our members at no cost or at the regular copay. Smoking cessation classes are offered and free Rx for cessation supplies/patches are given once a member has completed the class. Currently the trend is high deductible HSA eligible plans with zero cost for preventative care services. I find these plans offer lower monthly costs while offering low out of pocket maximums in case of catastrophic injury/illness. It really is the employer's call as to what they will purchase from an insurance company. Packages are presented and unfortunately employers tend to be cheap. Just my 2¢... 1 $25.99 Leftover MB (LOVED IT!) 3 $9.99 Infamous TF MB (Serious SuckFest)

Considering the amount of people that used the emergency room as a doctors office for their children or the family that came into the emergency room over a 16 month period all named Jose Morales with the same address and how amazingly none of them spoke english or ever paid a dime towards the incredibly huge hospital bills that were rung up (I know this from a family member that works in the hospital) I am not surprised that insurance is so outrageous although I am amazed that we still have insurance for alot of us. Considering what the hospital has to charge to try and recoupe from the deadbeats and non-payers and the amount that they have to pay to try and get quality nurses, it is amazing we even have a healthcare system left in this country. This is coming from a guy that has lost his house, 2 cars and everything else so I could pay my bills to attempt to stay alive through a disease that should have killed me and still might so I probably sound just a tad bitter in case you hadn't noticed.

I don't mean to pry or make you uncomfortable or anything like that, but I'm curious what illness you have/had. Of course, don't feel obligated to answer if you don't want to.

I know..it really sucks when our Employers won't arrange DECENT coverage for us! BUT..they want us to take time off...NO PAY...IF we get sick! It doesn't make any sense to me at all Right now, I'm under constant scrutiny at work. I think they are waiting for any excuse to tell me that because of my back , I am no longer doing my job up to their expectations I know this because They are constantly on MY back about things that I know for fact that they let others slide on AND I'm highest paid in MY store! 49 Flings Flung and WAAY more to come!Female in case you don't know LMAO

Wow. How long have you known you had it? Is it in remission? What kind of pancreatic cancer? I'm so curious. Once again, feel free to ignore whatever questions you want. It's so unfortunate to hear that you needed to do so much to pay just for treatment. How did you handle the diagnosis? I'm sorry, I'll stop now.

If you dont like the insurance that your company provides you can go outside your employer and get group insurance. I did this before I started working for HP. Now that I am with HP they provide some of the best benefits of anyone. Founder of the A.A.A.A.A.A.
