I have shopped WOOT for a couple years I'd guess. The only part of them I've had to deal with service issues is SHIRT.WOOT. I've had problems a couple of times with shirt orders and they have always come through. Overnighted me a replacement out of the blue without me even asking! The shirts aren't always to my liking, good thing for my budget, but I have some I like a lot. JadenKale, a ThingFlinger, has had shirts there. Jaden, if you're reading this, I got Little Nessie for myself and one for my daughter before they were reckoned. Haven't recieved them yet.

I don't think enjoying another web site makes me dis-loyal to this one, but I'm thinking some people might think that. I love almost everything about Thing Fling, but there are parts of Woot I like too. Smile

Why did you get probation?

because they censor their forums over there apparently. They didn't like what he said so they suspended him! Great way to lose a customer huh!

Hell..we have Flauta's and other crazies running rampid over here and noone censored them! Of course WE buried them..but hey...we're allowed! Bad Grin

The rise in censoring all of woot started because of shirt.woot, primarily (and since all the forums are somewhat connected and policed by most of the same people, all of woot gets the same go over). People are regularly being attacked for their designs in the shirt forums, so they had to tighten down on the leniency they once gave towards anything in the forums. Originally the filters were created for fun and a way to keep people from getting all pissy when something was said to them. With the rise of hate and discontent in the shirt forums, people started lashing out at the mods (much like Xeno's comment would have been taken) and causing them to censor people further and adding on more and more hours.

In all honesty, Xeno, 245 hours is nothing compared to the guy who was threatening to steal all my designs, create a webpage to trash me on the web and regularly give false tattles to the rejector of the inappropriate shirt designs saying I stole my artwork. I barely talked to this guy before this happened, mind you. After my first comment to him, as I noticed he was stealing designs that weren't his own, he attacked everything I entered and ended up somewhat like a stalker. I dealt with this behavior for nearly 6 months and after he first attacked me openly in forums, I never once tried or attempted to say another word to him but I still held fast to my opinion as he would consistently whisper how he was trying to screw with me and get everything I entered removed. On 3 of this guy's 20 accounts he created to circumvent his probation, his main 3 received a total of 3000 hours of probation. His first account, we know him from best, receiving 2000 on its own. Only now can he finally post in the forums after much that has finally been resolved behind closed doors through the help of moderators. I'd probably be seeking a lawyer for slander and libel right now if it weren't for a few mods in particular who helped stop his behavior.

Then all the drama with Allison Stokke pictures (Pole Vault Girl) and her father wanting to sue any and all who post the picture without permission. Woot mods have to be on the lookout to delete anything with Allison in it, (the April Fool's woot-off was so bad, there was a spammer posting the most disgusting photos and manga art. And I don't mean just sexual material, I mean disgusting, vile concepts that you have to wonder if the manga artist had been smoking weed to come up with such a piece. Those who were around, probably remember the nipples that were shitting 10 times or more per page (multiple times per post)... yeah, I don't want to go into further detail.

I don't necessarily agree with everything they do, but I will defend them to a point. I've been in their shoes before as a moderator for forums and for MSN while they tried to compete with Yahoo's chatrooms (a concept that failed miserably for MSN). Being on both sides, I can safely say that if one has a stronger grasp of the English language, you can promptly insult someone without getting probated. I did this all during the woot-off for fun (and because a group of wooters were having fun bouncing insults, innuendos and jokes off of one another). Those who got pissy (one of which got all 2nd grade on me and insisted that I was a loser since I had made a comment that I had made 250 some posts during the woot-off to another one of the jokesters) lost their cool and started bypassing the woot filters to insult me and others. I didn't care, I pretty much ignore their attempts at pissing me off but the rules are there to keep people safe from psychos (like the guy who was attacking me in the forums) and keep people docile. There's really no reason to come into a place like this and blow up into craziness.

We praise the mods here because we don't call them mods, we call them royalty. They're held up above the rest of the flingers here. But they do the exact same things that woot mods do: They filter content (think to anytime someone posts about a new MB item that is supposed to stay a secret), they modify/remove posts, they change signatures (I had this happen and Spyfling was polite enough to tell me why I had something removed from my signature after it had been up for a week or so.) They all do it. So at this moment, TF doesn't have a filter on chat, that may change as they get more people to come to the site. I don't think anyone has ever been placed on probation here, but there's a first time for everything once you see poor behavior consistently from the same people. Things change based on the amount of people in a community. There's only so long everything will stay happy and content as we add more conflicting personalities and situations to the mix. I think Melmo might be one to notice that since she's had some colorful conversations with a couple people here. To live under the illusion that everyone gets along, and gets along all the time, is unrealistic.

I apologize for writing such a lengthy response. I haven't really posted in a while, and I thought I'd come back with a vengeance. Laughing
nah, seriously, I just thought that a more level sided perspective could be of interest since I've been both a mod and just a poster.

Nice to see that I still have awesome fans since it finally got reckoned. If anything happens with your shirts let me know. I'll let you know that since it's been reckoned, if you have a problem with it, they will simply refund your money. But, if you have a problem with a XL size, I have a spare.

9 wks on the chart. Not too bad. Now I just need to create a new one.

Jaden, so nice to see you back.

I think the original post was more of a light hearted jab at the moderators heavy handedness. The rest of the thread was more like a commentary on woot as a hole in my opinion.

I don't think anyone is under the delusion that we're all one happy Utopian society here, especially with what has been going on with the infamous mystery box drama... And thingfling announced in one of their newsletters recently that active moderation is coming.

But that said, the reason why I don't consider the royals moderators, is because so far as I am aware they've not done much of what you pointed out as reasons. Well besides spyfling editing your siggy, that's really the only time I can recall anything like that being done. i have seen some truly colorful language in this forum over the year I've been here, and some rather disturbing things having been said--to the point that I have openly mentioned that I wish TF moderated such content. But they never have so far as I know==so far as I know each little poop smear is still sitting on the forum in whatever thread it was placed in. The MB for which they said discussion about its contents was more of a joke really. People did discuss it more or less, and nothing got censored.

But I am not arguing the point that this could change, or arguing that it should or should not be changed. BUT I do think these forums remain moderator less until the point and time comes when the moderators TF mentioned in the newsletter finally land. I only think this is an important distinction to make because I think TF by and large entrusted their community for this long to police itself. But the community has grown tremendously and I do think it is finally time for some infrastructure to be laid down, yes.

Cool! Thanks Jaden. Hopefully they will arrive in good shape. Now you need a new shirt to beat your 9 wk record. How about a dragon theme (can't get enough of them). Not too cutsie, but not too mean! Laughing I'm not trying to be presumptuous with the idea, just popped into my mind. Rolling Eyes

I was working on a cat angle at the moment, actually... he's in the works (along with some of my other pieces I worked on alot over the last few weeks:

BTW, he does have a shirt there in green, I happened to last save him on the same green background, so I didn't change the shirt color when I took the screenshot. I originally wanted to add a bag in his other hand and label it 'Catnip' but I'm afraid of the 'no drug' policy in designs. I was also told by some fans that I add fried mousy in his hand... (a play on a black stereotype... something I wish not to get into, although the overall idea was amusing) and another person told me to 'inflate his hair' and add birds in it... THAT's something I'd consider. I'd have to shrink all parts of him down, and add the birds in. But That could be humorous.... I've got another cat one in my sketchbook on the back burner... and a red panda (a raccoon) in a sumo suit. I'm hoping they might be useful later on.

My last dragon didn't fare overall, but I was severely hesitant to do him... he just didn't get the love he deserved, but I may just try again and work a bit harder on it. And with this week's Marie Antoinette entries (I modified my first and added colors, they're all about the same except for the color theme) being the most intricate I've done so far, I'll really have to step it up now.

You are probably correct on the light hearted jab... I just felt that I had a very unique perspective on the whole outlook of mods since I've been a mod before. I simply hope that whomever they decide to make a mod from the regulars here, understand that the job is never about personal vendettas. Don't single a person out of whom you've had issue with in the past. It'll only create hate and discontent, and sides will be created. That type of drama is just not healthy for a community (hopefully it will never get to that point)

This is too cute Jaden! Love the hair pick! Laughing Is this going to be your next T-Shirt design? Personally..I like the catnip idea..but that's me! But I guess the anti drug policy might see catnip as a pun on drugs. You COULD have her holding a Human head Handbag like humans hold animal print handbags. Way cute though! Love the two claws sticking out! Laughing

Laughing

HH, the program is Photoshop. I created everything in vector shapes and modify them by cutting out areas, or free-handing shapes. Kinda like what I did this week:

That's after about a good 20 hrs or so busting my tail on the design (and I have 2 other versions up for voting. An all blue version and a more colorful green and yellow version)

I do want to submit it to woot, AA. I really think I'm still going to suggest it with the catnip bag, because I like it dammit LOL, but I'm considering a couple different options. I like the human head bag idea, but that would mean changing him to a 'her' and I don't know if it would keep with the hippy-cool look. And his paws will have more detail, AA. He'll have details cut in like the Marie Antoinette at the fingers, and small wrinkle details.

My Flings: V-Day Mystery Box, $3.77 Mystery (loved by Shaggy and upgraded to over $175 worth of goodies! Thanks forever, Shaggy!), Sunday Mystery Box, Leftover Mystery Box, 6 $9.99 Infamous THINGFLING Mystery Boxes, Wireless Presenter and Laser Pointer for only $0.99 (with 'we owe you one'), Special Letter from the Court with cards, Leftover Mystery Box Part IV - The saga continues... (Shagged!!! YES!), Almost Mystery Box - Only $9.99, The $9.69 Fun Mystery Box, Back to Work Mystery Box – Only $1.99

Status: Is your name Summer? 'Cause you are as hot as hell!!! JADEN IZ HOT FLINGUR

I need to get my hands on PhotoShop..wish I had that program...I have PhotoSuite that I play with though. But do want photoShop...does that program have an animation thing with it? I really want to learn animation.

I don't see why they wouldn't let you have the bag of catnip...it's not a drug..and all cats are doing it! Eh?

If not...well..you can always do a strap over the shoulder bag across the chest with a human head if you go with that...hang some fringe from the bag..it would be more guy like that way..but I do like the catnip idea best. We're huge fans of catnip in THIS house! Very Happy

I think if you do the catnip..you will definately sell ALOT of them actually. That would make it a definate hot shirt for both the non-drug community and the drug community! From a marketing point of view..that's a good thing! Very Happy

Well, to be fair to woot, I must say this.

1) They pretty much pioneered the concept.
2) When they were small enough, they had some amazing deals (read over 1.5 years ago)
3) They WERE quick to ship.... now its all gone in gutter though.
4) They have some really funny product description and maintain a good podcast.

Woot to me is I think almost on the verge of implosion...

1 and 4 would define them for me. TF needs someone working on their (4) Wink
