I have a cat problem that I am hoping some of you can help me with since you are cat knowledgeable.

I have 2 neighborhood cats that are not exactly friendly. They tend to fight amongst themselves at night right outside my window but the worst part is that they have almost attacked my Collie puppy. I had him in the backyard when one of them decided to climb over my fence and when my puppy went walking towards it with his tail wagging, the cat tried to scratch his face. Now I understand that the cat was thinking it would protect itself but I will not let my lil guy get ripped up by some spastic cat that shouldn't be in my yard in the first place.Shame on you Shame on you

Does anyone know of any type of product that I could maybe spray around the outside of my fence that will keep the cats away but will not hurt them. I have many ways that I could hurt them but that is not my intent so I am only looking for safe ways that are non-damaging to them or the surroundings if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am not sure if it would work but wal-mart use to sell a powder that would keepanimals out of your garden. they may not still sell it i don't know cuz i don't work there anymore, but the main ingredent was black pepper. i was going to use it at my moms to keep the pets out, but she had the grandkids over a lot then and it says to not use around kids( more for outdoor use) Hope this helps

I wonder if cats could be kept away with a scarecrow kinda thing? Or maybe they'd be too smart for that.

How about a 'scarecrow' that shoots water? This one's basically an autoturret that fires on anything it sees Bad Grin Bad Grin Bad Grin

I have a "green solutions" book and it has a section for cats. These are the two easiest ones.

#1- Cats do not like the herb "rue", it says to scatter the rue leaves around the areas that the cat frequents and they will leave quickly. The book also recommends planting the herb near your garden and the cats will leave your garden alone.

#2- Mix 2 oz of white vinegar in a small sprayer bottle and give the area a squirt or two, Cats hate the smell of vinegar. Don't spray it in your bird bath water.

They also said cats don't like to see theri reflections in plastic bottles and to fill soda bottles half full of water and leave them around the area the cats frequent...

I wouldn't want to line my yard with soda bottles so that wouldn't be a viable solution at my house.

I haven't tried any of these - I have a problem with birds - maybe I should just borrow those crazy cats Laughing

Do the cats belong to anybody? You could always relocate them.

I know there is a spray to keep cats off your bushes, maybe it'll work on your fence.
Here's one I found: http://www.mysimon.com/9015-10992_8-29573655.html I just googled CAT OFF, there's more listed. Greek

What you probably have is two male cats hanging around fighting for terretory...also one of your neighbors might have a female UNspayed cat which is attracting them to your area..they can smell a female for I think up to five miles away. But..here is a website that might help you http://www.cat-repellant.info/ I wouldn't get close to them to try to trap and release somewhere else if they're violent and feral..might be dangerous.

Citronella or any citrus smelling product is supposed to work. I had a cat once that hated bananas, we would place them around the "no-no" areas and it worked great lol!

Dont tell me you put cheeses in the nono area Funny what works for one, might not work for the other. One of my dogs wont listen to be quiet when barking at something, but if you make fart noises at him he stands at attention quietly while the others keep barking. Wierd , I know ....lol! Who the heck makes fart noises at thier animals!! But it all started when he farted out loud one time and he always looks back now . Edited typos. I am tired.

Laughing I don't have any nono areas that they go into though...no live plants which would be the only thing I can think of..they're allowed up on the furniture so what would be a nono area? Besides....if I said an area is a nono area..Lucy would be going to the nono area more! She's alot like me! I would push the red button!

Lucy farted yesterday..LOUD! I heard it from across the room...now..how many cats fart LOUD?? She rolled on her back..did a stretchy thing and let one rip! Laughing
