Dimensions (from the Wal-Mart site): 1.7 in x 2.4 in x .9 in Seems a little thick as mp3 players go nowadays. But, I'm in for an order. Most of the e-opinions seem pretty happy with theirs and that's after paying $150 for one! Pretty impressed on how much life it gets out of a single AAA battery. Two for Tuesday? I wonder where one would get that idea from... I would be wary of non-name brand flash-based MP3 players--I've gotten burned more than once. Not a bad price considering you get two (which would help in case one goes south)--but if you don't really have a use for the other one, just invest in a solidly reviewed model.

From the comments I read somewhere (can't remember where now) it does not remember where it was in a track if you shut it off (why do so many players neglect that feature?), but according to the manual it can rewind / fast forward within a track (by hold down the previous/next button). Somewhere I saw a mention of an SD card expansion slot, but I'm pretty sure this unit does NOT have such a slot (based on the manual) Best price I've found so far is $39.99 + $5.99 shipping at: http://www.microcenter.c...html?product_id=0287409
so if you actually want 2, this fling is half off, otherwise it's just a good deal  . Hmmm ... I wonder if there's any chance I'm already getting one of these in one of the 3 $9.99 mystery boxes I flung over the weekend? For what it's worth, I disagree with moelearner. I WOULD be wary of no-name hard drive mp3 players since they are more expensive. The main reasons for flash over HD are the lower price and greater durability. Both factors work in favor of no-name over brand name (the durability because if that's a factor there is probably at least some chance it will get broken anyway ... like if you use it while working out). I'm a bit of a connoisseur of no-name flash mp3 players. So far I like my Coby players, but they don't have screens. I had a DiabloTek unit with a screen that I really liked, but I dropped it from a truck onto pavement and broke the screen. Would fling this in an instant if it bookmarked (I listen to lots of audiobooks), but without that feature will have to sleep on it. I bought a 2 or 4gb Curtis unit functionally similar to this one (different shape though) for like $25-30, but cant seem to find it at the moment.

Mac users beware! According to one of the reviews, while the device is "Mac compatible" (ie, you can drag and drop files to it while it is connected to a Mac) it will only read ID2 tags if the file was created with Windows Media Player, effectively making it useless for anyone who does their ripping with iTunes or any other software. Pretty major limitation, IMHO. My Dragons need your help to hatch and grow! Please click on them!

It's probably both Mac Compatible and requiring Windows Media Player. According to the manual you only need Windows Media Player if you want to play DRM songs (or, music management software from providers "might" work) . I've seen a few places say it is NOT compatible with iTunes, but you can download Windows Media Player for Mac: http://www.microsoft.com...player/mac/default.aspx
I kind of doubt you have to rip with WMP to see the info ... it's probably just rather picky about the tags whereas other software or players might be better at "guessing" or displaying info included in the file name, but then I haven't used it and don't know much about ID2/ID3 tags.

according to the Siren site, you do not need the software for this. Simply plug it into your USB, and open up the file where it stores the music. Then just copy and paste the music into this directory. It's fairly simple. This is how I do it on my Rios and my Sandisk players.

And if the ilo was any indication, you don't need to install any software to put songs on it. I never used the installation CD that came with my ilos and I have no problems putting music on or taking it off.

I have a question for you folks that own one of these or something similar. I have no experience with any sort of ilo or MP3 player, as I prefer to just turn on the radio. But, my dad LOVES music, especially jazz, and I think this might be a great gift for his birthday in August. However, he is 81 and is starting to suffer from confusion and senility at times. If I were to purchase this for him (and keep one for a gift for someone else) do you think it would be easy for him to operate? He has a PC and used to get on the internet all the time, but he doesn't do that much anymore - however, I could install a bunch of music for him. I just need to know if it will be easy for him to figure out how to operate the thing. He has always been a gadget junkie, and he LOVES radios, so this would be right up his ally as long as it's very, very simple to use. Any thoughts????? Thank you.........
