I remember many years ago the first video or picture
telephone was developed. Everybody was all excited about it when somebody
alertly remarked “Well, they won`t work if the person you are talking to
doesn`t have one. Same thing with the Philips SPC700NC.

Oh, I could tell you it`s the ultimate PC camera for face-to-face
video conferencing or that with a 30-frame-per-second refresh rate at a
resolution of 640X480 you`ll enjoy sharp, natural-looking full-motion video in
your v-mails and online video conferences.

But it takes `two to tango’. Wouldn`t it be better if
someone you work chatting with had the same PC camera and headset? You bet!

Thing Fling can solve the problem. We are selling you 2 PC
cameras for $23.95. Hey, one retails for $34.00, is that a great deal or what?

I've never purchased a PC video camera before, but I'm considering this one - but I have a question. I know if I send my second camera to someone, we will be able to video/chat, but will I be able to video/chat with someone that does NOT have this same camera? I'm sure it's a dumb question, but I'm a camera virgin.....

Pretty sure its just a regular ol' camera and headset. You should be able to use it with someone who has any camera so long as you're using the same software. IE skype or netmeeting or something.

If you are using a messenger like yahoo, msn or similar or skype, it does not matter what camera either parties have... infact, if the other person does not have a camera at all, you can still chat, they will be able to see you but you will not be able to see them, think of it as having printer, it does not matter what kind you have.

I have consulted two computer geeks Very Happy here in the office and they assure me that any two camera, no matter the brand, can be used as long as your are utilitizing the same program for connecting with one another. Basic answer: Yes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the helpful info. I kinda figured it didn't matter what type of camera the other person had, but I wanted to make sure. I'd like to send one to my sister so she and I can SEE each other as we chat - uber cool!! Thanks again TF'ers!!!

I had to get a new laptop so I am giving my older one to my kids, and this will be great for them to chat with grandparents and friends. These deals have to stop I will be broke the mystery bag last night and now this. I was wondering if you knew how long they take to ship, I know it says 7-10 days but some companies never are within their estimated shipping frame. Thanks in advance for your help,

Newbie

I use a camera to chat w/ my friend across the country. Since I use Macs - I have an iSight and a built in one on my desktop. If I didn't I'd definitely like these. Higher resolution than most, not sure about the fps.
I'm glad the watches are done for a bit.

I'm almost sure that the headset is not attached to the camera cables, but can anyone confirm that it isn't? I was looking to buy a new pair of headsets anyways.

Can anyone vouch to the quality on this? I used to have a Logitech Pro 5000 camera (until my dog chewed the cord on it).. Since that was a $70 MSRP camera, I really don't expect the quality to be on that level, but for the price, does it show a decent video stream? I'd be using it for web based chat, versus still camera.
