I think we're having fun. I think our customers really like our products. And we're always trying to do better. ~ Steve Jobs

I'm having fun! I have gone back and forth between PC's and Macs since 1987. Always preferred Macs and now I have no compatibility issues. Still have an old Dell but won't be buying any more Wintel beasts.

So Steve, I guess you're doing a good job. Like any big company you can be frustrating but are still less evil than MS.

Sadly, I started on computers, when apple meant II/IIE, I even owned a Lisa2 and Mac XL. Both had known hard drive issues(5MB HDs were huge back then) that apple wouldn't do recall on, just kept replacing them with other bad hard drives. If not for the HD issues, best damn machines ever. Saying Apple is not as evil as bill gates is only because Apple has better press. Both are horrible and only care about profit. The devil you know is better than the devil in disguise. New Mac OS is just as/more buggy than Vista (and that is damn hard to believe.)

As far as Steve Jobs, he is one of the greatest marketers in the world, but I wouldn't trust him to change a digital clock or even a tire for that matter.

Not true! It seems that Bill Gates is also very much concerned with driving me nuts.

Maybe so, but does it require 3GB of ram just to do word processing? The thing that bugs me about Vista isn't the bugs (HAR!), it's how much memory it hogs up, for NO APPARENT REASON.

Vista vs Leopard? I waited till 10.5.2 but my install was smooth and I have not had problems yet. Tiger was pretty great and I am learning Leopard and what it has to offer.
Vista has companies paying extra to buy PC's with the old XP in order to not be forced to go nuts and change all their software. Leopard now has 35% installed base on Macs - people are switching vs Vista where most are avoiding switching. Of course Lepard was buggy at first. Most software is.

I never really understand the hostility people hold towards Vista--my only gripe with it is that for the monetary price involved to upgrade, and the time it took them to develop it, it is not really a huge improvement over XP (and I suppose some argue it is a step back)--but still I myself personally prefer it over XP, although I would not pay extra money for it if XP was offered for less for example. I use Vista x64, and yes it's a pain in the****to find compatible hardware that have 64 bit drivers, but by and large that situation has improved greatly, and the new hardware coming out almost universally have 64 bit drivers available.

I do not have any problem with Vista's memory useage and was in fact up until recently useing it on 2gigs system memory with plenty to spare generally. Ready boost is one of those nice Vista perks as well.

As for all time favorite computer system, I'm going to vote hands down on my old Commodore Amigas--my old Amiga 3000 with bridgeboard was a beast to behold--a gentle magical beast of yore. Had Commodore not fumbled the ball on the Amiga as royally as they did, I still think he computer scene would be much different now adays.

As for Jobs, I read a interesting article not too long ago, it was a comparison between Steve Jobs's and Bill Gate's charitable contributions. Bill is a big time philanthropist, while Jobs, it seems, holds very tight to his wallet.

I liked the Amiga and all of the Commodores(had a vic 20, 64 and 12Cool. I have no hostility towards Mac and MS, actually, I have hostility towards both and believe with the amount of them I've worked on have reason.

Vista sucks, Microsoft even says it will be slower than XP for at least 1 year. It crashes, hangs, chews through hardware(especially video cards) and that's only the hardware it works with, don't get me started on how much software won't work on it. Basically it's starting out as crappy as every other MS operating system for the first year. When I needed to buy a laptop recently, I bought a Thinkpad instead of another brand because the Thinkpad offered the XP Pro OS.

I also have had to return several Macs because of overheating, bad motherboards and other 'known' problems of the model and Apple refused to admit a line-wide problem. The two Macs I own are older and run OS X very nicely and it's not a bad OS(I like it a little more than XP).

My main issue is that they both rip the consumer off with poor hardware/software design and quality control. The difference between the two is the publics perception. Already on this board, the Apple group feels they have to defend there 'poor' struggling David to the MS Goliath and the MS people are defending MS against the Zealots.

Both Apple and MS have had strings of lemons(due to hardware, more Apple than MS), both companies are only in it for the profit and both companies are in it for the long hall. If you like your Apple great, if you like MS great, leave it at that. Be thankful they are both large successful American companies, we need more of those.

Not sure if that was directed at me, or everyone in general, but I agree with you on a lot of points. Though I will say this, my experience with Vista has been quite the opposite of what you state, except for perhaps the initial juggling with compatible software and hardware (ie those with appropriate drivers). But I have seen those areas also tremendously improve, so it is attributable of course to issues you have with any brand new OS.

I am no MS fan in any particular way, although I ultimately choose to use Windows as my main OS of choice for a variety of reasons with Linux being my second choice (by way of the one I use the second most often). But I am as apathetic about MS as I am Apple. ALTHOUGH my one pet peeve in regards to apple, is just merely that they have somehow figured out how to be the trend setter. By that I just mean, that it is seemingly now the cool thing just to get the latest Apple whatever. Which is not to say any of their products so much are bad and they have set some innovations, but it's funny to me you know how a lot of people will buy ipods because thats in their mind the only mp3 player that exists. But then again, I am generally always a little against joining the latest fads. Smile

Anyway--I was a huge Commodore fan back in the day, had several 64s, a 128, an Amiga 500, an Amiga 2000, and finally an Amiga 3000--and I stuck with it a long time before finally letting go and moving over to he IBM-compatibles.

This was not targeted at any one person, just look at the posts, and see everyone defending one side or the other.

The sad part of your statement is that it is actually an understatement. Not only do people pick up apple products because they are apple products, some people pick them up because they believe apple products false claims that they are the only one's that have the features. Ask anyone who owned an old Sony Photobook about what the smallest laptop is. Ask how many people who own IPhones actually believe they were the first multimedia internet ready phones. You can even still find some people (one an executive at a fortune 100 company) who don't know what an mp3 player is, but own several IPODS.

Hah, you know back in the day when my hearing was in a better state, I remember the thrill of owning my Creative Jukebox Nomad.. 6 gig harddrive I think. That thing was cool, of course about the size of a regular portable CD player, but awesome nonetheless. I enjoyed when ipods came around much later and everyone hailed it as the first of its kind.

;course, thankfully mp3 players in general have improved and shrunk since the old nomad. Wink

Rather random place to put this.. Think Look under "My Flings" and check what your status/delivery tracking is, and if you still find something is amiss, then submit a trouble ticket on the helpdesk, and allow at least a day and a half or so for a response. If you have done that and it's been longer than that and you had no reply, then try looking up your ticket number on the help desk, as there is a current glitch in their system it seems where tickets are replied to but not necessarily emailed out, so you might find a reply is sitting their if you look it up.
