This funny-looking build-it-yourself Boe-Bot Robot Kit is a pretty neat treat for those who dig engineering, software development, mechatronics and so on. It's basically a project platform on wheels that you can build and mess around with. Great passtime, especially being able to construct, program it to navigate basic maneuvers, convert it into different robots (with the other kits, that is!), and even teach it tricks!
