I can't use DHL anymore. Won't. Unable to. Could you perhaps add more options to shipping maybe?
Here is why.
My mysteryboxes were scheduled to be here last Friday. The DHL guy never showed, and when I checked online status, it said attempt was made but customer wasn't there.
So I called, explained I've been home all day. And there was no delivery notice so I know he never even came to the door. I try to be patient, after all my aptartment complex has 8 buildings and perhaps the fellow had never been here before and got confused?
The folks at DHL said they'd look into it and call me back. They did, they were very nice about it. They couldn't get ahold of the office here in Colorado Springs, but would keep trying. An hour later, they called and said the office told them that the delivery guy couldn't make it here because of all the ice on the roads.
Interesting, considering it was sunny and about 55 degrees that day and there was hardly any snow except on people's lawns. I told them that, and they apologized and said there was nothing they could do until Monday.
Monday comes, and again I'm home that morning and the guy never shows. Tracking shows he tried and that I wasn't home.... yeah right.
So I call again, DHL apologizes, and says they'll call me back. 2 hours later they do, saying the delivery guy claims the apartment complex is a secure and gated community and that he couldn't get in.
Another lie. First it was non-existant snow, now I live in some sort of secure compound? The doors to my building are never locked, and are in fact WIDE OPEN during the day because all the laundry facilities are downstairs and the other people in the other buildings come in all the time.
Well, I explain this, and they say they'll check it out and call me back.
I get a call from the local office here in Colorado Springs. The guy claims his delivery man was unable to get in the door, and that he couldn't find the apartment offices to get help....
Another lie. Since the offices are in the middle of the whole complex, and have a BIG GREEN SIGN WITH AN ARROW ON IT THAT SAYS "OFFICE"
So, he sends the guy back out. 1 hour later, I get another call. Supposedly the building was still locked (even though the doors are wide open) and he can't get help from the office because they won't accept packages or direct delivery people.... he gives me some bogus story about how a year ago some people dressed as UPS guys made fake deliveries..... what the hell does that mean?
Another lie. I went down to the office and asked, and they said the NEVER saw the delivery guy, they never have problems with 'bogus deliveries' (i got a funny look on that one...) and that they are more than happy to contact their tenants and let them know they have packages waiting.
So I call DHL again, and tell them this. They send him out AGAIN..... and this time he DOES come! TO THE WRONG DOOR! There is ONE locked door on my building, it has a big sign on it that says 'Boiler Entrance: Do not Enter! Use other side!" But does he try? no. I get another call from DHL explaining that they have labeled this area a "problem area" and will not be able to delivery here for a while.
I had to drive across town to get my packages.
I'm going to make these guys' lives a living hell until I get satisfaction for their ineptitude. In the meantime, please don't ship me anything using DHL.... they suck here.

Ouch! They were in negotiations with the other delivery companies. Hopefully this will change!

I just called DHL and made a complaint, hopefully that backwater of an inbred monkey they have driving will be dealt with..... but I doubt it. All my friends who have used DHL have had negative experiences as well, I frankly don't see how they can be so screwed up in this city and still get business... I'm sure they have competent people somewhere, its just now here!

The company used to be good when it was Airborne Express, but then they got bought out by DHL which I think one of the Airborne guys said was in Germany (I could be wrong). New idiots up top and it seems to have trickled down to the bottom. TF - how are the negotions going with the other shipping companies? Does your kids' school have a Circle of Friends? Yikes...! Sorry about all that hassle you've had experiencing with DHL. The first, and only, time I've dealt with DHL (My first Thing Fling from Wacky Wednesday), I don't have any complaints. It may be that I live in a house, so it wouldn't have been a bit more of a hassle as an apartment, but yeah... those DHL employees/delivery people in your city suck. The only complaint I really have with DHL is that they're a bit slow and they don't care to ring the doorbell even once to inform that a package has been left at my doorstep (UPS sometimes does, but not all the time, which I'd rather they do). 25 flings and counting! THING FLING...THEY'RE GGGGREAT!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I just received one of my orders from about a week ago and it was shipped via USPS. I don't know if this is the general direction TF is going to go or not, make your own assumptions.

From what I understand DHL drivers have a much larger area to cover and they are required to deliver ( or attempt to) a greater number of packages per day than their counterparts. This may be why your driver provided inacurate information to DHL...to cover his butt. This is no excuse just information to help decide a future provider. With my work, I send 5 or so packages per week. I've used DHL, FEDEX, USPS and UPS. I've had good luck with UPS and OK luck with the USPS. I will never use DHL again, for the simple fact that a package was damaged. pic from bk.

I have always had the best service when I recieved a package by FedEx. It was their caring drivers who made the difference. But when shipping, for quality, speed, and price, I always pick DHL.

Yeah, I know that not all DHL locations are the same way, and I know that UPS, USPS, and FedEx all have their problems in certain places.... This was just.... so crazy, ya know? I've had deliveries from UPS, FedEx, USPS here also in the last month (lived here for 1 month exactly now) and no problems with any of them except with one UPS guy who couldn't figure out which building I was in, but he got me my package that very day regardless. But all of my associates and friends who have used DHL have had some interesting problems. At least the DHL folks were nice to me on the phone the whole time (except for the local office guy, who was an idiot and an arse). Perhaps delivery by ninja.... quiet, unobtrusive, and quick. If you survive the delivery....

Speaking from bad work related experiences with DHL, it is because most of their drivers are "independent contractors" that merely lease their trucks from DHL and in some areas they even deliver packages in unmarked vehicles even though they are delivering for DHL, mainly so the "contractor" doesn't have to pay for a DHL vehicle.
Crazily enough, we have been better luck with the USPS than one would expect (for medium sized boxes). And UPS is our main carrier for pallets and larger boxes, while FedEx does the handling of our smaller letter sized packaging. DHL on the other hand... They were bad as Airborne and even worse as DHL depending on where you are shipping to and from. Some places they are great, while in others, the drivers can't be bothered to leave their vehicles to deliver a package, which is sad when that is the main purpose of said company.

USPS normally does fine for me, but I like to see the progress of my package. Usually not able to do that with USPS. FedEx and UPS are generally my preferred carriers, though DHL has not done anything to me (or my packages) as others have experienced.

I think your luck with certain carriers depends greatly on where you live. The UPS driver for my area is great. He puts my packages in plastic when it is raining and places my doormat over packages so that people walking by can't see them. FedEx at least puts packages in the corner of my small porch so they are moderately protected. DHL just kind of plops packages on the porch and runs. USPS, on the other hand, just throws whatever they don't stuff in my mailbox on the top step, completely exposed to passers-by and the rain. In fact, they fold up magazines and catalogs and leave them sticking out of the box slot, and when it rains it funnels water into the box itself, soaking anything in there. And yes, I have talked to my carrier. I vote for UPS as the official Fling carrier. More than 70 Things Flung, and counting. (well, actually, I lost count a long time ago!)

UPS sounds fine to me, I don't have much trouble with them. Didn't have trouble the last 2 places I lived either.
And since DHL has labeled my area a 'trouble zone' and won't deliver anymore, I guess anything is better than them for me!

I live less than a mile from the DHL shipping warehouse for my area and the DHL drivers can never find my house. It’s pathetic! I live in the city about 5 streets away! I have to pickup my packages from there warehouse (which is hard for me to do) and they are always week or more late. UPS, USPS and FedEx have never had a problem finding my house and I ship and receive a lot of packages. UPS ROCKS!! USPS is ok FedEx is ok DHL sucks!!

Nope, now I got an email saying that I have an order being shipped by DHL. Maybe using both?

Maybe... I just got an email notification from DHL, too. 13 lbs (my DENTEK! and hopefully they added my universal remote, as well). Maybe those that received their item through USPS can chime in for their weights... so we can do some further observations. 25 flings and counting! THING FLING...THEY'RE GGGGREAT!
