It's $19.95 elsewhere on the web. Wonder if it works. Think

I wonder the same as samples55. My guess is that it likes to eat batteries, since the new version requires six AA's instead of 4.

Oh, wow. Honestly, I think this thing is a great deal. I have used mine VERY infrequently -- probably a grand total of an hour -- but the 4 AA batteries haven't needed to be replaced.

A few notes:

--Mine works great, but the plastic is super cheap. The battery compartment feels like it's going to break at a moment's notice. Fortunately the batteries stay wedged in tightly.
--The blue metal disc shown in the picture is what gets cold (or hot). You're not supposed to apply it directly to your skin, I think, but I still do in the summer.
--The metal disc gets COLD. Almost like an ice cube. The main reason I use mine is during power outages in the summer when you have no A/C. It's nearly impossible to sleep in the heat. So I flick this thing on and alternate it on my wrists/forehead for about 30 seconds each and I really do cool off within a few minutes. Enough to fall asleep. But falling asleep with this thing ON your forehead would probably be insty-frostbite, so beware.

But really, the product itself can't be faulted. It's almost completely silent. It's worth six bucks for sure.

thanks for the info, redrumbstd!

I'm in for 2. What the heck, it's camping season and it gets HOT out there during the day! Def worth the $10 shipping if these things are effective. Good thing I'm already well stocked on rechargable AA bats!

I got one of these as part of a mystery box couple of years ago. My experience was different from that of the previous poster. While it does noticeably cool and warm up, I would definitely not compare it to an ice cube. Using a contact thermometer, the device never got much below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and that's in an air conditioned environment. It will quickly "lose its cool" when you hold it up against your warm skin, or even if you take it outside in the heat.

As always, YMMV. I'd say it's worth the price as a novelty, and maybe yours will work better than mine did.

Just ordered two. Might be fun to re-purpose, thing USB beer cooler/coffee warmer. Don't expect a huge change in temperature, but should be an interesting experiment.

In for 2 as well. I can see where these could be very useful especially since we had a power outage last year that lasted 4 days.
I also don't see how you could beat the price which is always a nice extra. Applause

Applause Glad I didn't miss these( Laughing just woke up). Inn for 2Applause . I also got one of these in a MB about 1.5 yrs ago. I love it. I have MS and don't deal well with high temps. AC went out on my van last summer and I couldn't get it repaired right away( over $1000 for repairs). I really put this to the test with temps pushing the 100 mark in southern GA. This helped me still have a little in me after any trip in my HOT van especially in combination with the CoolDownz neck wraps. Used it just about daily for varying lengths of time. To me it didn't seem to eat up batteries, usually went at least a week before needing to recharge the batteries. Never had a need to try the heat function so can say anything about that. YMMV

Why can I only order one? I could use 2 of them because I have 2 kids. I know they would get a kick out of them!

I also got one of these from the ancient 2 year ago MB. I liked mine quite a bit. I would not say that mine ever attained complete ice cold temps, but definitely chilly, and definitely helpful. The fantastic thing about it was that it was chill on demand and relatively quickly too. I am prpne to migraines so this was life saving at those times they'd hit when I didn't have access to the regular ice packs. I did not have issues with battery life, BUT I did end up tossing mine, because it was damaged irrevocably one day. As another poster mentioned the plastic is thin and CHEAP. Mine cracked and split in several places. So--I recommend this, but I also recommend you be careful of it for this reason. Sit on it at the right angle and it's likely to bust in key weak points like the head joints. Really the only thing that drove me nuts about mine, was the flimsy battery cover. Mine had a tendency to pop off. BUT despite all that, I think I'm going in for two of these now.

You are limited to a quantity of one per order, as since i's a free item, their profit margin, obviously, is in the shipping costs. BUT, you are allowed to place two orders of one, for a grand total of $10 for two... If it is preventing you from making that second order, then your order counter got screwed up somehow, possibly from a failed transaction? In that case, submit a trouble ticket PRONTO, and IF they get to you in time, they will surely fix your order count for you. Or post here, and hopefully a staffer spots you.

But you definitely are allowed two orders of one, I just did it.

When you click on "Fling me One" we reserve the item quantity for that order for about 20 minutes.

If for any reason the order fails it takes approximately 20 minutes for the quantity reserved to be available for you again.

Whenever something like this happens you have two options; you can either wait 20 minutes and try again or you can go into the "My Flings" page and cancel the "in Progress" order before trying again.

For your convenience i already checked and your "in Progress" order has been reset.
