Got mine today and already have it up and running. This thing is amazing. Best 30 bucks I have spent!! I would gladly buy a couple more if they pop up again. The deal on this remote is exactly the reason I check ThingFling every single day!!

So, there we go!

We will run those remotes on 12/25 during the whole day... 12am to 12pm Eastern time. Tomorrow! Wink

Time to get yours! Cool

in what I am sure was a direct response to my post (due to a hand written response) ... LadyFling shagged me! I'll have to take a picture with my MacBook camera later as evidence.

But for now, the list of what I got:

Prestigo SRU 9600 remote control (scrounging for batteries to get this baby set up)
Tool Solutions 32 LED super bright flashlight (seriously awesome, I can't wait to blind people)
Philips portable MP3 CD player
GE On-Shoulder Hands-Free Headset
Power Sentry Metallic Ice 6 outlet power strip
and finally, a Philips talking caller ID, similar to the one up for sale but without the screen.

Seriously not disappointed, thanks LadyFling and thanks to everyone over at ThingFling!

You're welcome, Koreth! Wink

And have great Holidays!

Just to clarify things a bit... You say they will run '12/25 during the whole day' but then you say '12am to 12pm Eastern time'. So are they going to run 12am( 12/25 midnight)- 12pm( 12/25 noon) or all day 12am( 12/25 midnight)- 12am( 12/26 midnight) Question Wink

You can get used Harmony 520's, 550's, and I just bought a NEW 688 for $30 on ebay.

I wouldn't waste time with this remote.

Anyone else have any problems with their Philips remote? Mine worked for a few days without any problem at all (I loved it), but just recently it started freakin out. Now anytime I touch a button, it shuts downs for a couple seconds then turns back on--only to repeat the pattern if any button is touched thereby rendering it useless. I sent an e-mail to Philips customer service yesterday so hopefully I'll get a response later today. In the meantime, anyone know of anything else I could try? I really want this to work because it was great those few days it did work. Thanks, all.

I got one of these in a mystery box last month. it is awesome. extremely easy to program. you dont even need the manual to program this. the mystery box was $29 but i would have paid $70 for it. this awesome remote operates every device in my entire house. This remote is truly the mans best friend!!!!

Better late than never......
I've had a similar problem with mine which I've solved by replacing the batteries. Mine seems to suck up the power but I do like to have the back light lit all the time. Not sure if I'm treating the problem or a symptom.

What advice did Philips have for you?

I'm thisclose to ordering one or two more to have ready as gifts.

Just wanted to say we got this a few months ago in a "Shagged" mystery box and think it's excellent. Comparable prices range from $60-110, even from previous posts it looks like the last time it was offered at TF they were $40. For $20 you're getting a LOT of remote.

It feels solid in your hand, it takes three AA batteries. It sync'ed up with our DVR and TV no problem. It works as intended. It turns things on and off. Wink I'm not the type of person to drop several hundred on a remote - so I can't compare this to one of the Harmonys, but I have owned $20 universal remotes before and compared to this they felt like something that should have been 3 for $1 at a Dollar Store.

I bought this about 6 months ago and i have only one major complaint. It has NO ARROWS!!! If you look at your cable or tv remote, you will see the arrows there to help you move the cursor around on the screen. Well this thing does not have any arrows so you have to use other buttons to do this for you. Not a big deal after you get use to it, but Philips should have done better than this. I'm looking for a harmony now.

"Backlighting is a feature that illuminates the LCD screen or keypad for use in the dark. The two most common types of backlighting include LED and electroluminescent (EL). Remotes backlit with LEDs are typically bright but uneven with a yellow or green colour, while EL panels are smooth with blue, white or green shades."

Dear TF,

So which back lighting does this remote have? I read thru the posts, but I could not find an answer. Your description does not say which type, LED or EL, of display this remote encompasses.

Gracias,

Check the remote again - it DOES have the arrow function. Look closely at the area inside the silver ring. There are four tiny silver dots on the black toggle representing the up, down, left and right. They work perfectly and allow for full navigation...

This thing doesn't work. It will not reproduce codes on one hand, and won't hold codes on another.

I spent $75 having my amplifier manufacturer teach the device the code--and it dropped the code after a few days.

It says that it is accepting the code for my CD player from the factory remote, but it will not operate the CD player.

So far I have $100 and a lot of time invested in a paper weight that has been a giant hassle, and will continute to be a giant hassle for me, ThingFling and Philips.

Don't buy this if it is offered again.

No, No, No. I hate posting negative reviews, but would have appreciated this when I bought this remote earlier this year.

The first reason I would never buy it again, even at this price, is because it's already old school.

A few weeks ago (maybe on woot?) I got this: http://www.amazon.com/Ac...-Control/dp/B000XTP3XW. Now, the ARRU449 is very poorly designed, but for about $30 + $5 shipping, it's really cool to have because it does SO much more. It connects to your WiFi, has the tv guide on the color LCD, email, minesweep, etc. I know - many more things than you'd ever want on a remote for your devices - but it is entertaining in itself.

The Philips remote here will eat the bajingos out of your batteries. I literally go thru a new set/week to 2 weeks. The circle in the middle to select your device is probably the only nice thing about the remote (it's too fast - I recommend accidentally spilling some soda on it to slow it downRazz .

Remember, there are no keys to find in the dark - like you know you do. So you'll have to literally look at the remote in order to use the majority of the functions. Volume, Mute, Channel up/down, Menu, Guide, and a couple of others do protrude making them finger friendly.

We went from our Comcast remote for our Motorola DVR to this and were very unhappy (your fingers can't remember keys that don't have texture). We then 'upgraded' to the ARRU449. It's poor design makes it also the next to be replaced, but it's worlds better than this Philips (FWIW).

Not sure about the negativisms on this remote. I have so many remotes for so many pieces of equipment it isn't funny. Aside from a custom programmed Crestron system, this is one of the best remotes for the price.

As for it eating batteries - I've never had a problem with it. Could folks be using cheapo bats and blaming the remote? I get about 3 months heavy use from Eveready or RayOVac Alkalines. I've also use NiMH rechargables in one of them (I have 4) and they last about a month.

As for it "forgetting" codes - it can't since they are stored in flash memory. Unless you reset the remote or reprogram it - it will hold the codes even if the batteries are removed.

As for learning - it was even able to learn the codes from my Barco (industrial and touchy) projectors and switching/processing gear. Most learning remotes including Harmony aren't able to learn them.

I mean I have 4 of them, purchased at different times and they all work really well and have become the "standard" remotes in the house (except the kitchen where we use the SRU8010 - the cool one where you can program it with the channel logos). I've used touchscreen remotes for years and these are probably the nicest consumer ones out...

I concur with the poster above! I love this remote! Thing fling just saved my butt big time. I just stepped on the one I bought last time and busted the display, thought I was going to have to pay 50 bucks plus for another one of these.
It controls my projector, sony AVR, dishnetwork box, and any thing else IR that I can fix a button to. Set up was easy, batteries last me MONTHS! Just replaced mine for the first time since I got it.
My only complaint about this remote is that the wheel is a a little sloppy for me. I would like it if the clicks were more decisive, several times I have inadvertently switched devices by bumping the wheel. I would give this remote a 4 out of five. And I mean come on, 25 bucks. Thanks AGAIN thing fling!
