Ah but it depends on the context of the word "fling". When calling oneself a Flinger, you are referring to the act of flinging--in this sense it means to have flung, in other words to have hit the "fling me one" button and put an order through. It is though true that it means different things when we say we've flung, and when the royal court flings. Haha, you remind me though I used to contemplate this very concept when I was a new flinger back in the day, and yet it now makes total sense to me, and I don't think about it. But there are a lot of context driven definitions. here. Fling in the TF sense is not only a verb but also a noun, as our packages are also considered "flings" as in "I received my fling today".

"I flung my fling, which the Royals flung at me!"

Depends on what generation they come from. The term "Trekkie," while coined as a mocking name for Trek fen, was actually adopted by the earliest fans as a badge of honor. It wasn't until later that the fen decided that they preferred the word "Trekkers," and that eventually stuck as the "official" term. Even today, when you go to a SF con you will still occasionally hear the old argument - generally between someone who was around to see the original series' first run and those who are young enough to be their grandkids.
