![]() The Wireless-N Broadband
Router is really three devices in one box.
First, there's the Wireless
Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also
a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet
devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets
your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
The Access Point built into the Router
uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft
802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's
"Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the
effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are
confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to
increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage
area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to
4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.
With Wireless-N, the farther away you
are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G
and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the
router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band,
yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless-G. But unlike other
speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this
double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other
wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the
"good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other
wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.
To help protect your data and privacy,
the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength
256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful
SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet
attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web
browser-based configuration utility.
The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for
media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP
telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data
streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in
performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router at the center of your
home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files,
printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at
faster than 10/100 wired network speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!
We could find retails for $59.99 plus shipping, but either
they are out of stock or open box. Those that are in stock, the lowest price
found is $84.73.
Today only THING FLING's price is $42.69 plus shipping. That's a $17.00 saving from our last offer. But remember, $42.69 is for today only.

The WRT300N-RM is NOT a Gigabit router. The item description even plainly states it as a Full-Duplex 10/100 switch, which is not, in any way Gigabit, nor is it the Gaming Router, which is black. Just thought it should be mentioned.

Is this some sort of day late April Fools item? Not impressed. (or expressed, for that matter).

Why is the discussion header is listed as WRT330N which is a real GIGABIT router but the current item is,
* Brand: Linksys * Model: WRT300N-RM * Condition: Refurbished * UPC: 745883584949 Which is NOT Gigabit, only 10/100 speed.

If the WRT300N is a gigabit router, then I would think the WRT300N-RM should be. The only difference is that the "-RM" is added at the end to indicate the refurbished status. I can't think of a reason why a refurbished model of any router would be different than the non-refurbished one as far as ethernet speeds go.

And it must be a super deal if the description lists the price at 68.99 but the header says 59.99.

According to Linksys' documentation, the WRT300N is not a gigabit router - it only supports 10/100. The WRT330N (called their "Gigabit Gaming Router" does support 10/100/1000.

Rats - I've been waiting for TF to list a wireless router. Mine, after several years of good, faithful service, has begun dropping connections a lot. But, for my purposes, all I need is a cheap one so 59.99 + S/H for a refurb does not qualify. Hey Royal Court!!! Much of the stuff you have is, to put it mildly, outdated - especially the stuff you include in MBs. Can you find any cheap, outdated 802.11b wireless routers? I'm still using b and it's just fine for me. I'd love to pick up a new one cheap. The list was getting too long to continue to provide details: 25 flings flung - 14 of them mysteries - $477.69 total damage

Will check back for the Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Gaming Router. Anyone know what model number it was last time listed?

It's $42.69. But there was a little bug in order creation pulling the price from the master product price (not the "sale" price). EDIT: Fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience."TinyGecko" is now "CodeFling"

I'd be in for this, but going forward I've decided that gigabit ethernet is what I'm going to standardize on for wired connections in my home.
I know that with any sort of non-dialup internet connectivity, the weakest link is always that connection and it's not going to make my internet browsing significantly faster - but I'm going to be setting up a network-based backup method for the computers in my home (three - mine, wife and kids) and gigabit's going to almost be a requirement for that.
If you're Joe or Joanne Average, this is a great deal on a wireless broadband router though!

EDIT: Fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience. I was going to pull the trigger on this last night, but didn't due to the price issue. Nice to see it's going to be offered again at this price after the gigabit gaming router. Hopefully I'll catch it.
