I don't see any information about this not working with vista.

Any evidence?

I figured out how to get this working in Vista Dancing . Takes a bit of twiddling but I got it.

First, run the setup program in XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode (right click/Properties). This fools the installer.

One thing I did was plug the base in before I ran the installer. At which time it /did/ shift sound to the Auvi and away from the sound card. Not sure if you wait to plug it in when told by the installer if this will happen.

Once installed, OK Skype to let it connect.

If your speakers went mute, right click on the speaker icon and choose Playback devices. Set the sound card back to the default. Ditto your recording device if you need to.

Over in Skype, select Tools/Options/Audio. Set all 3 audio options to the Auvi. Save and ***restart Skype.*** You must restart Skype.

Another thing I did was to also set the Dual Mode Cordless Phone program in the Startup folder to XP compatibility. It may or may not help, but things are working so I'm not changing it back Shhh

well apart from googling it and linking you to it ... I have NO IDEA lol sorry .. I know skye is where you can talk to practically anyone in the world online, like an internet phone service and It used to be free ... don't know if it is anymore or not.

Hopefully someone wiser and more 'techie' minded can answer!

In a nutshell: Skype (and other so called VOIP services) let you speak to others using computer connections rather than the old Ma Bell copper wire way.

Skype-to-Skype calls (computer to computer) are free no matter where you call to. Skype to landline incurs a small fees (something like $0.026/minute) to US landline numbers, or you can by really cheap unlimited plans which also cover Canada. I'm testing it out with their $8.95 for 3 mos unlimited.

Rates for calls to other countries vary.

For additional fees, you can get your own physical phone number for skype ("Skype-in"Wink so landline people can call your Skype phone too, and things like voice mail etc.

A cool thing is that you can be ANYWHERE, and as long as you load up the Skype program and login as you, you can make calls (or people can contact you with Skype in!). So imagine being in Timbukto on vacation. While you're at an internet cafe you can talk to the folks back home just the same as if you WERE home.

See skype.com for more info.

This phone takes the place of your computer's speakers and microphone as the means for skype audio, and also lets you hook into your landline, so you can call out on skype OR your normal phone.

Hope that helps. Like mommy2one says, check out Google...you'll find some good info there.

hmmm..thanks! So then..this can be a GOOD thing then! I happen to have a friend that lives out of state and uses only a cell phone for both home and not...I was figuring instead of using her minutes..something like this could be good...so if both of us use the SKYPE/VOIP thing..it's free? I like free! Maybe I could do away with my unlimited long distance service if I go this way. could work! I'll have to google it and read more!

Thanks!!! Smile

This has come back a couple times over the last few days.

I like it well enough that I bought one for my father.

Vista Note...see my post back up this page...it will work with a little help. Don't ask Auvi...they never even bothered to reply to my support request about it.

I may need to eat my words on this. All seemed fine...I can call from the phone to landline or other skype phones, I get a ring and can receive calls from the landline, but I've just notice that it doesn't ring when someone calls ME on Skype. I'll work on it and see.

Well Flingers, I may be beat.

As mentioned above, all functions work in Vista except the incoming ring. I can't yet figure out why the Auvi application refuses to "Use handset" (its grayed out).

When I plug it back into Win2K everything is fine.

I'll come back to this at some later time, but right now my work week is busy. So at this point, the Dual mode under Vista is 75% functional Smile

Vista isn't worth being compatible with - and for future reference, hardware manufacturers are in NO WAY obligated to make things Vista compatible (in fact, I hate devices that are) - it's Microsoft that broke the compatibility to begin with by making a shoddy OS. They could have left things intact since Vista does nothing better than XP does (in fact, it does everything worse), but no, they made it all incompatible and broken.

So just by the fact that this thing isn't Vista compatible, I'd love to buy one. If only I even used a land-line phone of any kind... I use my cell phone everywhere. Think

This is a gret phone, I've used it since it arrived from this site recently.
Keep in mind it is DECT phone as well, so for this price it is a steal.

Second, it is present supporting XP, I tried to run USR 9630 software for vista as both these phones are identical ditto except names, but I think it needs a dll tweak somewhere as it dod not work.
But someone out there witht their smart brains will comeup with a Vista support soon.

Inspite of this I love this phone as I love xp BETTER than vista!

This phone works great. I bought it to use at my apartment because I don't receive cell phone service in my apt. Highly Recommended!

I think I read something, somewhere that said you can put the computer on hibernate and this phone will continue to work w/ skype.

An added bit of info......Netgear makes two different phones that will work without a PC. One plugs into your router to get internet, the other one uses Wi-Fi "hotspots" for internet access.
