ok...how about a timer towards the ending of an item so there is an idea of when the next item will be coming up...or if the quantity is getting low..show a quantity left area so we know the next item is coming up soon..or both??? Kind of like a Last Chance signal letting everyone know to grab it now before it's gone.

Same idea I had so of course I like it! Applause

1&2) Too confusing. Especially if the whole point is to get new customers.
3) Some of us work for a living and cannot get a bunch of personal e-mails each day (WE ALSO PROBABLY CANNOT INSTALL WIDGETS, WHATEVER THE HECK THEY ARE.)
4) Please not for the FIRST 12 hours every day. Be original. Some people don't want to sit around until midnight.

I have to agree with these answers. Another option (possibly?) rather than a new site, have one "tab" with items that are more in quantity/stock, and another "tab" that has different items, like AMB or less quantity items, that includes either quantity remaining option or timer, or both. New items would first appear on the later, and after they made the first appearance, offer on other tab. Maybe it isn't just new items, but special deals on a quantity of an item for a short period, or a combination of a couple different items. People new to the site would be able to see the excitement on the one tab, and the ability to capture what they missed on the other page. They could probably even appear on the same page, but I am not a technologically smart person to figure out how to do any of that, I just like to buy stuff!

Hmmm, bs changes that not one person has agreed with...

If it isn't broke don't fix it! Smile

Maybe it is broke and revenue isn't doing well? Confused

Last ditch attempt to save the site? Think

Last ditch attempt will kill the site? Not talking

It's pretty spectacular how people's interpretation of the world, their perspective if you will, is so often colored by their opinion isn't it? Friend, did we read the same forum thread? I think we must nt have because I didn't see a bunch of people disagreeing but rather being supportive and offering suggestions and offering an objective look on the possibilities at hand. If you've no constructive criticism either way to make, then why sully up a thread based on good intentions? hmm? Got a better idea? Let's hear it, that's exactly what the king was asking for.

Working on that Almost Mystery Box huh? LOL.

If you want to get technical. I think the King said: "Do you have an idea of any kind? Let us know! (PM us or use the Helpdesk)"

It amazes me how you guys talk about how great this community is because you can speak your mind and not get censored, but as soon as somebody says something that you don't agree with...They are bashed.

Nope--I didn't order a AMB. Didn't need any of the guarantees. I see youagree with the a*s kissing theorist. Well as that matter has already been well responded to, I have real;ly nothing left to say to you on that.

Sure, you're free to say whatever you want, TF doesn't care. I however am not TF, and I am free in kind to tell you that it is really irksome to complain for the sake of complaining--without offering any constructive criticism to go along with it, as was asked for in this thread.

Well cheers and all that, mate.

I can't use a widget at work and I get so many work-related e-mails that yours would get lost in the shuffle. Text messaging would require a new phone (not right now!). Count me among those who'd prefer a timer - at least for the last hour or so of an item - and/or the quantity box. I do look at the Upcoming Flings and try to figure out how soon/how much later what I'm interested in will show up and the timer and quantity box were very very helpful.

Now if you'd just get some more of those travel mice or those great messenger bags back in .... Whistle

Curious, have you really bought that much from here? You joined in mid December, I think that was after the last changes to the website were made.

Sorry for the attack, but you seem to like going after others, I am sure I will get mine now as well.

Hey king--

It seems like most who want the time left counter back want it back so they know when to check the site for a fling they want... It's not really abig deal for me, as I said I use the wootalyzer program which tracks thingfling too, so if I'm at my PC I see every new deal as it lands, but, how about this suggestion:

How about the addition of a new autoflinger to the site? It would require changes be made so the site kept check out information and so that it is sort of like 1-click ordering on amazon.com... But lets say the upcoming fling list was modified with a button that said, for example, "auto-fling". Which would set up an auto-fling when pressed, and when the appropriate time came around and the item was up o the site, it would be automatically flung? That way people would still need to check the site to look at the upcoming flings, but would not need to know when exactly the item would be coming up. And of course it would only be available to registered members who have thoroughly filled out their billing information, and/or setup logins for google checkout and paypal... and would be disabled of course on items that you all want people to have to manually order, such as the special mystery boxes, or for example the 99 cent items of old... I can't see how such a feature would hurt, and surely it would mitigate the absence of the timer, as well as help people not to ever miss a fling.

I don't think there's any problems with revenue or the site..they're just wanting to make enhancements like all other websites do periodically. I dont' think I've ever seen a website that hasn't made changes to either appearance, functionality or features including the monster of all websites..eBay! It has nothing to do with fixing something that's not working or saving the site..it has to do with evolving with technology and improvements. I'd be worried if things weren't changing as time goes by...it would look as if they just slapped a site up and left it there to do the work for them..it tells me that they're interrested in their site and are watching. Asking us for suggestions tells me that they take their customers ideas seriously before just doing what they want without considering how it would affect our shopping experience.

Yes the counters are gone..and the time..but they're explaining what they're doing and asking us what we think. As far as I'm concerned, this is good customer relations. They're listening.

I have been thinking about what brought people to this site in large numbers before (when the number of members was listed) and there are a couple of things that came to mind:
* AMB's EVERY Thurs night
* Special days like Wacky Weds. & $10 Tues.

What kept them around:
* Great prices
* Free shipping
* Great items the people wanted (rechargeable batteries, Monster Cables, puck lights, Dynamos etc...)
* Having an idea when the next item would be for sale
* Knowing what that item would be
* The great forums with free speech and lots of posts by the Royal Court

How about going back to what was working well and maybe add in the part of having a new item every day at midnight (except on Thurs when you would have the AMB at midnight) or adding the shadow listing, or adding the store, etc...

Dear loyal Flingers,

So here are some ideas, but I really need some feedback from you guys and gals.

1) Timer every other day?
2) Timer for part of the day?
3) Automated email or text message as a new item comes up on the site?
4) A new item everyday for the first 12 hours and then the repeats?

I would prefer an automated E-Mail.

Thanks,

Perhaps, but removing features nearly all of us like hardly qualifies as an enhancement!

I don't really understand -- a whole slew of the most loyal customers are expressing displeasure at the changes. What can be more clear than loyal, money spending customers' opinions? How will removing these features help to attract new business as King of Fling suggests? How will pissing off existing customers help? It's all a mystery to me!

As for constructive suggestions: how about showing quantity and time remaining if you are logged in? Then if somehow King is right that it scares away new customers at least existing customers can log in and see the stuff we want.

I personally don't like repeats at all, but hey TF is still new, I won't say much about that. Two things TF stood out from other DoD sites is the timer and more than one item per day. I think being able to track what time the next item will be is crucial here.

Right now I'm pretty clueless about when the next item is going to show up. Quite frankly, I don't even bother checking TF as often anymore because of that.

To the King, my suggestions are,

1. Bring back the timer, the quantity doesn't really matter imo.
2. If you want more new customers, bring in more new items instead of trying to get rid of certain items first. I know you're doing business here, but as you said in your OP, "how many Roombas can a person have?" Same thing goes to you, how many IM9 Ipod speakers/shower stuff/laptop locks/and headsets can a person have? And this is the reason people love AMBs from you, because the guaranteed item(s) in AMBs are always new. I have yet to see you guys make an Antec IM9 Ipod Speaker AMB.

So please, if you want new customers, put up more items and rotate them in a faster pace. So every time someone catches their breath from work/games and check out thingfling.com, they see something new instead of the good old "BEST IPOD SPEAKER EVER" or "Shower gels with refill!!!".

Just my 2 cents

You can see how much time is left by hitting this little page that I setup:

http://www.surrattweb.com/tf/

It is really bare right now, but I'll work on getting it styled and making the timer count down, if anyone things they may use it. Right now it has to be refreshed to see how much time is left.
